Description: The Shatara L. Grimsley Academic Scholarship is awarded to worthy graduating high school seniors from a High School in the following cities/towns: Attleboro, Avon, Boston, Braintree, Brockton, Cape Cod Islands, Dedham, Foxborough, Holbrook, Milton, New Bedford, Norwood, Quincy, Randolph, Stoughton, Taunton, Walpole, Westwood, and Weymouth.
Scholarships are to be applied to the cost of undergraduate tuition, fees, and room and board at an accredited college or university.
The scholarship may provide a $1,000 non-renewable award for students who will pursue full-time undergraduate degrees from accredited vocational/technical school, community college, or college/university in pursuit of a certificate, diploma or degree. Scholarships will be applied to the cost of undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board, and other college expenses.
Criteria:
To receive consideration, applicants must:
- be a graduating high school senior
- have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- demonstrate examples of community and school service
- demonstrate financial need, but not restricted to lower incomes (student's financial need and merit will be equally weighted)
Application Process:
The following items must be submitted to the Chapter:
- Application completed in full
- High school grade transcript through the first semester of 12th grade*
- College Acceptance Letter (the award will be provided upon receipt of proof of registration/enrollment)*
- Submit a headshot photo, depicting you from the neck up to accompany your application.*
- Applicants must submit a 500-word essay or 3-5- minute video describing their community service activities, the academic accomplishments, as well as their career goals. Applicants must submit (2) letters of recommendation in support of their application. One letter must be from a teacher who can discuss the academic accomplishments of the applicant and one letter must be from a community leader (such as a community service supervisor or a minister) who can discuss the service record of the applicant.*
- Applicants must submit a Statement of Financial Need describing how they will benefit from receiving this award.*

Selection Process:
A Scholarship committee of The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Omega Eta Zeta Chapter will select recipients. The committee reserves the right to rescind an award should a recipient's circumstances change, such as failure to graduate from high school or failure to enroll at an accredited institution. The Chapter reserves the right to withhold the award in the event that no applicants are deemed to meet the qualifications.
Payment Process:
Once recipient(s) have been selected, checks will be issued jointly to the college and to the recipient and will be mailed to the recipient's home address for the students to deliver to the college's financial aid office. Check processing requires approximately two weeks.
Management of Fund:
The Shatara L. Grimsley Academic Scholarship is administered by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc - Omega Eta Zeta Chapter. As the fund grows, the number and dollar amount of scholarships may be increased.
