  • 2022 SHPE at LM Aero Scholarship Application

    (High School Students)
  • The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics (SHPE at LM Aero) seeks to empower the Hispanic community to attain careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This scholarship opportunity is for graduating high school students pursuing university degrees in STEM fields to enable students to succeed in their journey to becoming the next generation of technical professionals and leaders. SHPE has actively awarded $72,200 in scholarships to 45 students since 2011, and just last year we awarded a total of $6,000 in scholarships among four students. We highly encourage you to apply and look forward to distributing scholarships to help fulfill our mission to promote and support STEM initiatives.

    *Applications that are incomplete will automatically disqualify the student in the selection process. 

    Application submission deadline is Saturday April 30, 2022 (Midnight - Central Standard Time). No exceptions will be made. 

    • Requirements and Eligibility  
    • The SHPE at LM Aero Scholarship is an achievement-based award that recognizes well-rounded graduating high school students who have demonstrated academic excellence, service to the Hispanic community, and provided commitment to diversity and inclusion. 

      Applicants shall meet ALL of the following requirements: 

      - Be a graduating senior pursing a STEM field 

      - Be attending a high school in Tarrant, Parker, or Johnson County, or a SHPE LM Aero partnership high school

      - Complete a 650 to 750 word essay (topics listed in checklist below)

      - Submit one letter of recommendation

      - Submit copy of high school transcripts (must show cumulative un-weighted grade point average (GPA) on a 4-point scale)

      - Submit copy of ACT and/or SAT report

      - Provide intended college of attendance

      - Provide information regarding awards, leadership, volunteer activities, and work experience

      ***Dependents of Lockheed Martin employees that are in the SHPE LM Aero Board and/or Scholarship Committee are not eligible for this scholarship.***

      Students who are selected for final review will be asked to provide the following document to the SHPE LM AERO Scholarship Committee for verification (May):

      - Copy of college acceptance letter

       

    • Selection  
    • Once all applications have been received, the scholarship committee will begin the review process. Each application is scored according to their academic performance, involvement in volunteer activities, leadership roles, work experience, quality of their essay, and letter of recommendation. 

      *Applications that are incomplete will automatically disqualify the student in the selection process. 

      All applications must be recieved electronically no later than Saturday April 30, 2022 (Midnight - Central Standard Time). No exceptions will be made. 

    • Award  
    • Scholarship award finalists will be notified in May to submit copies of their  their college acceptance letter. Award winners will be requested to complete a scholarship acceptance form after the official selection is made. Winners will be awarded at least a $1,000 scholarship towards their first semester at college, which will be paid directly to the university they will be attending.
