    WHAT IS RUCK?
RUCK•ING [VERB] // Walking with a weighted rucksack (aka backpack). It implies action, energy, and purpose. Rucking requires strength, endurance, and character — and builds it, too. (www.goruck.com)

BGFA hosts RuckBG once a year aimed at fundraising, team building, social gathering, networking, and community development.  Not only do BGFA members get to know each other better, but they get to know their community and their sponsors better.  RuckBG is for everyone! Recruit friends, family, gym members, church group, co-workers!

Ruck leaders, known as a Cadre, design a new community-basd course annually. It is designed to challenge teams and build confidence and comradery among its members. The Cadres, on the day of the Ruck, will lead their teams through the course and its obstacles and encourage teambuilding and competition along the way. Ruck team members will supply their own weighted backpack (or better yet a rucksack) weighing 10 pounds up to, but not limited to, 30 pounds (optional). Often, Cadres lead their teams into wet, dirty, muddy environments while carrying additional loads of stones, bricks, or logs to push the limits of their team members.

Recipient Bio: Jimmy Wallace is a 38 year old husband and father of two.  He’s an extremely hard working and genuine guy that would doing anything for anyone.  At 24 years old, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Neuroendocrine Carcinoma.  Over the past 14 years Jimmy has faced multiple surgeries and treatments for tumors in his pancreas, liver, stomach, lungs, bones and multiple lymph nodes throughout his body.  He never complains and is only concerned with how long he will have to miss work and maintaining an active role in the lives of his teenage children.

This Thanksgiving, while vacationing with his family, Jimmy was plagued with intense pain.  He saw his specialist when he returned home and started a new immunotherapy treatment.  In February, the pain, swelling, lack of appetite and extreme fatigue made him unable to work.  In March, the scans showed significant disease progression throughout his body, most significantly in his liver.  The immunotherapy was not working. Being that Neuroendocrine Cancer is so rare, there are very few FDA approved treatment options and he’s basically exhausted them all. Jimmy will begin an aggressive form of chemotherapy to try to stop the growth and spread of these tumors.  Any funds raised by Ruck BG will go directly to medical expenses, travel to his specialist in Lexington and providing for his family.  Jimmy is extremely grateful and humbled that he was chosen.
