CAMP: Washoe Lake State Park is located between Reno and Carson City, Nevada at 4855 Eastlake Blvd, New Washoe City, Nevada 89704. Overnight camping fees for the State Park ARE NOT included in the entry fee, all riders are responsible for the overnight fee upon arrival to the park.
you will need to pay your camping (overnight) or day use upon arrival to the park at the fee booth. A "per vehicle per night" fee is required.
Space is limited, please park as comfortably close as possible. DO NOT drive over the sagebrush. Restrooms will be available. Horse water will be available. Bring your own water for human consumption. The elevation is over 5000' come prepared for any type of weather. Portable corrals should be placed outside the post barriers to better utilize vehicle parking space, please watch out for the drip system. It is recommended that you leave your dog home. DOGS MUST BE ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES (see Ride Rules). Ride camp officially opens on Friday, June 10th.
PRIOR TO YOUR DEPARTURE FROM CAMP, ALL HORSE MANURE AND HAY MUST BE CLEANED FROM YOUR CAMPSITE. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM FUTURE RIDES.
DIRECTIONS: From Reno on I-580 (US 395 S) take exit 57B for Old U.S. 395 S toward Virginia City/Carson City/So Lake Tahoe. Continue on US-395 ALT S/Old U.S. 395 S/S Virginia St. Drive for 7 miles, to Eastlake Blvd. Turn left onto Eastlake Blvd, another 7 miles to the entrance of the park on the right and it will be marked with ribbon. From Carson City, take I580/US395 North to Exit 44 and turn right on Eastlake Blvd. and proceed about 3.5 miles to the park entrance on the left. Pay the park fee at the booth, then turn right and proceed to the equestrian area.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The trail will be of moderate difficulty. Pads and/or boots are highly recommended! The desert terrain varies from rocky to sandy with steep uphill and downhill, some trails, some cross country, and jeep roads. Elevation varies from 4600' to 7500'. The trail offers horse and rider a moderate challenge, while enjoying the beautiful views from the mountain tops and the beaches of Washoe Lake. The 75-mile ride will consist of four loops. The 50-mile ride will consist of three loops. The 30-mile ride will consist of two loops. There are no away vet checks.
The 75-mile ride is the 2nd qualifier for the NASTR Triple Crown. The 50-mile ride is the 2nd qualifier for the NASTR Trifecta. The 30-mile ride is the 2nd qualifier for the NASTR Hat Trick.
RIDERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY WHILE CROSSING PAVED ROADS!!!
PRE-RIDE VET CHECK: Dr. Susan McCartney is our Head Control Judge. Assisting her are Dr. Hannah Leventhal and Dr. Marcia Smith. Dr. Hannah Leventhal will be the Treatment Vet. Vetting will begin upon the arrival of the veterinarians, around 4 p.m. Friday. All ride information will be emailed to riders the week before the ride. There will be a ride meeting at 6:00 PM on Friday evening. Any time changes will be posted and/or announced.
After the ride meeting please join us around the camp fire. Bring your dinner and a beverage to spend some time with your fellow riders.
STARTING TIMES: 75-mile ride begins at 5 a.m., 50-mile ride begins at 6 a.m., and 30-mile ride begins at 7 a.m.
MEALS: Everyone's favorite Taco Truck will be on site on Saturday to provide all riders with one meal (ticket included in your rider packet). Additional meals may be purchased with cash.
AWARDS: Completion awards will be given to all successful finishers on all three rides. There will also be awards for the Overall Winner, 1st in each weight division, 1st Junior, Best Condition, and Top Ten for both the 75- and 50-mile rides. A Best Condition Award will be given on the 30-mile ride. Please pick up your awards if you are not staying for the awards presentation, or have someone pick them up for you, otherwise they will be forfeited. Awards will not be mailed.
SERIES RIDES: The NASTR Ride is the second event in our NASTR Triple Crown, Trifecta and Hat Trick Ride Series. Our series rides feature the beautiful Northern Nevada valleys, deserts, foothills, and mountains. We invite you to test yourself and your horse, and join us in the fun and challenge, as well as the special awards. Nomination fees are $25 if paid at the time of NASTR, or $30 if paid at the final ride of the series. We are offering the traditional Triple Crown (Nevada Derby 50, NASTR 75, Virginia City 100), the NASTR Trifecta (Nevada Derby 50, NASTR 50, Red Rock Rumble 50) and NASTR Hat Trick (Nevada Derby 25, NASTR 30, Red Rock Rumble 30). Riders must have completed their ride at Nevada Derby to be eligible for awards.
