Food Scrap Collection Service Subscription Form

The collection service is offered as a way for you to reduce your climate impacts and is provided by Iris Waste Diversion Specialists (Iris) based in Birch Run, Michigan .
The Give a Scrap Food Scrap Pickup Service is subscription-based and is available to households in the Birch Run, Saginaw and Bay City areas. Pickup service is provided on a weekly schedule for $20.00 per month.

The food scraps collected through this service are delivered to 5Heart Earthworm Farm where they are pre-composted before being fed to thousands of red worms.

Acceptable food scraps include all vegetable and fruit scraps, egg shells, coffee grounds and paper filters, tea bags, and pumpkins. We do not acccept meats, meat products, dairy products, oils, fats, grease, manures, or yard waste.

What you can expect.
As a subscriber to the Give A Scrap Food Scrap Pickup Service, you will receive a countertop kitchen pail ($20 retail value) for use indoors to collect acceptable food scraps during meal prep. When full, empty the contents of the kitchen pail into the 5-gallon food scrap storage bucket provided.

The 5-gallon storage bucket is for holding acceptable food scraps until pickup day. The bucket will be emptied by the collection staff and left for reuse by your household. You will be responsible for cleaning the bucket. For an additional $8 per month, you can sign up to have a clean storage bucket left in place of the unclean food scrap storage bucket each week.

This is a front porch pickup service provided one-day per week. After signing up, we will notify you about your pickup day and when collection containers will be delivered. This service is provided by Iris Waste Diversion Specialists, therefore your food scrap pickup day may not be the same day as your community provided trash/recycling/yard waste collection day.
