Afghan Refugee Student Data Collection

The Refugee School Impact program is a voluntary, federally funded, grant program for those Local Education Agencies (LEAs) who welcome a significant number of students with refugee status. Funded by the federal Office of Refugee and Resettlement (ORR), Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) in coordination with Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) sub-contract with qualifying institutions to support. 

• Specialized services and support of eligible youth;
• Support for families learning to navigate the U.S. education system; and
• Capacity development for school systems, including education and training for staff around the unique and varied needs of refugees, and access to necessary resources.

ORR has awarded Indiana additional funding for those LEAs who are welcoming students from Afghanistan. Recently evacuated Afghan students are part of Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) and the Afghan Placement and Assistance (APA) program and may be identified as refugees, Afghan Evacuees, or Humanitarian Parolees. They may have arrived through traditional refugee and resettlement pathways, or have come to Indiana on a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV). 

IDOE is collecting data from those LEAs who have enrolled students from Afghanistan in the 21-22 academic year to determine funding allocations. Only LEAs who have enrolled Afghan students should complete this JotForm to submit their data. 

Attached to this JotForm is a data template Excel document. Use the template to submit your Afghan student enrollment data. Then, upload the excel sheet to this submission form.
