ABOUT THE POSITION:
- Temporary Part Time Position
- Must be available May 29 through Aug. 4, 2023 (no camps the week of July 3)
- $10 per hour, about 20 hours per week
POSITION SUMMARY:
Teen Guides provide important assistance during FAMcamps in the summer. This role will help supervise campers before (8-9 a.m.) and after (4-5:30 p.m.) camps and during classes (9-4 p.m.). Under the guidance of the Learning and Community Engagement Coordinator, Teen Guides will assist in daily operations of FAMcamps through June and July. Assisting FAMcamp instructors in the classrooms, Teen Guides will gain unique experience in a professional setting. The wide range of programs offer Teen Guides the opportunity to experience and learn about new subject areas and career opportunities. Teen Guides may also assist with group visits to the museum galleries.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Make sure classrooms are set-up and camp materials are prepared at the beginning of each day.
• Maintain camp roster for assigned class every day and assist Learning Department with camper check-in.
• Guide campers to different locations throughout the museum including restroom breaks, outside activities, and lunches.
• Help FAMcamp instructors each day with classroom activities and demonstrations.
• Assist Learning Department with pick-up at the end of each day, including staying with campers and escorting children to the drop-off location when ready for pick-up.
• Ensure that classrooms are cleaned at the end of each day.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Attend regular trainings and meetings to share updates, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
• Report to each shift in a punctual manner with a positive attitude.
• Follow COVID-19 policies and procedures at all times while working at the First Americans Museum.
• Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Incoming high school sophomores up to graduating high school seniors may apply for this position.
• Must be able to attend training during the week of May 29.
• Available at least 15 hours per week through May 29–Aug. 4 (no camp the week of July 3).
• Ability to follow directions and be a team player.
• Previous work in museums or First American culture is not required.
• Be a positive role model for campers.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Enthusiastic about working with younger children.
• Patient and flexible with those younger than themselves.

• Punctual (must have appropriate means of transportation to and from FAM)
SUPERVISION:
• Teen Guides report to the Learning and Community Engagement Coordinator and other personnel as directed by the Director of Learning and Community Engagement.
GUIDELINES:
• Teen Guides adhere to the policies and ethics of FAM at all times. He or she wears the FAMcamp t-shirt and First Americans Museum name badge.
• Asks for assistance on any matters or answers to questions not covered by this job description.
• Teen Guides that do not have prior approval for absence may be dropped from the program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Dexterity enough to use a keyboard and telephone; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 20 pounds; may be subject to extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, balancing, bending, kneeling, handling, feeling, climbing, and twisting; and vision, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform the essential tasks.
