About the Position
Jupiter Moon Ice Cream Makers are responsible for executing production tasks to keep our scoop shop fully stocked with ice creams and toppings, complete wholesale, and special orders, while meeting quality and food safety standards. They collaborate with the Production Manager on a production plan for their shift then work independently to follow recipes and efficiently produce all the delicious treats required. This is high volume batch production in a fast-paced upbeat atmosphere.. This role is an incredible and fun summer job that is perfect for those who thrive on multitasking and feel accomplished with every task checked off on the prep list. Responsibilites:
- Meet production efficiency and quality standards
- Accurately follow recipes including scaling up or down appropriately for production needs
- Consistently produce between 16 and 26+ boxes of fresh ice cream each shift
- Taste all products made and assess flavor and texture – communicate appropriately any deviations from standard
- Properly label, date, pack, and store up to 200 pints or 400 cups of ice cream each day
- Rotate product following the principles of FIFO
- Prepare ingredients and produce ice cream mixes, varigates, mix in, inclusions such as fruit compotes, sauces, etc.
- Perform repetitive tasks through entire shift while maintaining time management targets and adhering to ergonomic safety
- Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
- Accurately inventory boxes, pints, cups, mix-ins, bases, flavorings, etc. to inform the daily production plan
- Participate in monthly shop inventory
- Communicate clearly, effectively, and respectfully with all members of our team
- Ensure all areas of kitchen are clean and organized during your shift
- Clean as you go, with attention to detail, while staying organized throughout your shift
- Thoughtfully complete daily cleaning tasks and periodic deep cleaning as assigned.
Qualifactions:
- Previous professional kitchen or food production experience is ideal, culinary school is a plus
- Passion for food, cooking, teamwork, and quality
- Ability to measure ingredients accurately and perform basic kitchen math
- Ability to work independently while also being a dedicated and collaborative team player
- Strong time management skills and flexible attitude for changing plans to maximize productivity
- Dedication to cleanliness and organization
- Great communication skills and a professional, friendly attitude
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions with precision as well as give great attention to detail
- Be 16 years old or older
- Be available 20+ hours a week including weekdays and weekends as late as 11pm, however, there daily schedule flexibility.
- No planned absences longer than 7 days in a row, June 1st through August 31st.
- Ability to stand eight hours, lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly, and work in a freezer environment for up to 20 minutes at a time
- Be a Minnesota Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM). Certification can be obtained after being hired but must be obtained as soon as possible.
Notes:
- Flexible scheduling, posted either 2 or 4 weeks at a time depending on the season, with the ability to trade shifts
- While most ice cream maker positions are seasonal and end in September or October, a handful of ice cream makers work for Jupiter Moon through winter and spring. For ice cream makers who stay with us beyond summer, career advancement possibilities exist in our growing company.
