John Wishart Memorial Medal – Lifesaver of the Year
The John Wishart Memorial Medal Award (Lifesaver of the Year) recognises the LSV member who has made an outstanding contribution to the delivery of frontline lifesaving services as a patrolling lifesaver and who can be presented as an identifiable ambassador for Life Saving Victoria.
This award perpetuates the memory and the deeds of John Wishart of the Sorrento‐Portsea Surf Life Saving Club who was taken by a shark at Portsea Beach in March 1956.
The winner of the John Wishart Memorial Medal Award will be the Victorian representative to the SLSA National Recognition Awards – SLSA Lifesaver of the Year. The award qualification period is from: 1 May – 30 April annually.
Essential Criteria
- Must be a financial member of an affiliated lifesaving club
- Must be an LSV member of good standing
- Must hold a current SLSA Bronze Medallion
Nomination Information
Nominations can be submitted by a Club Committee, Club Member, Council Executive members or by an individual member of LSV using the online nomination form. The relevant Club President will be notified of received nomination/s.
Nominations must include:
- copies of patrol hours achieved during the qualifying period and the previous season
- copies of SLSA patrol qualifications and awards
- a digital photo of the nominee
Honours and Awards Committee may seek clarification from across LSV to verify all or some of statements/claims contained in the nomination.
