The Idaho Lives Project (ILP) offers Legacy Schools (schools in their third or more year of Sources of Strength programming) the opportunity to receive supplemental trainings to help your school continue implementing your program to fidelity. Training requests are subject to trainer availability and a review of need. If we are unable to accept your request, your ILP Regional Coordinator will work with you to find alternative options to support your program.

Legacy School Sources trainings are generally scheduled for the early fall. Trainer availability and dates may be limited. However, every effort will be made to meet your request. Priority is given to schools that have not received a Booster in the last year.

Below is description of each training.

 

Sources of Strength Booster

The Booster training helps schools with established Sources of Strength programs to regroup as a team and kickstart their program at the beginning of the school year. Adult Advisors review how to support Peer Leaders and lead the program to fidelity. Peer Leaders receive a full Peer Leader training. During the training, the Sources of Strength team will collaborate on the development of the first campaign of the year.

Both Adult Advisors and Peer Leaders are required to attend the training. To support the facilitation of the Peer Leader training, Adult Advisors commit to more time the day of the training. If facilitated in-person, the training is 6 hours for Peer Leaders and 7 hours for Adult Advisors. 

Sources of Strength Reboot

The Reboot training is a complete “reboot” of a Sources of Strength program that needs support to ensure the program is implemented to fidelity. Typically, Year 3 and beyond (Legacy) schools receive a Reboot training. Your school may wish to consider a Reboot if two or more of your Adult Advisors have not received training, if your Peer Leader group is struggling, or if your Peer Leader team no longer represents the student population. Schools that have gone more than one year without producing a Sources of Strength campaign may also wish to consider whether a Reboot is necessary.

As part of the Reboot training, your school will receive one Suicide Prevention Fundamentals Instruction (SPFI)™, one Adult Advisor training, and one Peer Leader training. The need for a Booster training the following year is not included as part of a Reboot training.

Regardless of the type of training your school receives, you must meet the following requirements before your training is scheduled.

Your Sources team is responsible for purchasing the annual re-licensure kit from the national Sources of Strength. The kit is $500 and includes one year of licensing and similar content and resources as you received when you first implemented Sources. 

You are responsible for providing food, a training location, and audio/visual technology. Guidelines will be provided before your training with specific preferences and needs.

You agree to submit timely and accurate program evaluation data during the 2022/2023 school year.

A signed Statement of Assurance must accompany your application.

Statement of Assurance — 2022/2023

Idaho Lives Project (ILP) is a partnership between the Idaho State Department of Education (SDE) and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW). ILP is funded by IDHW’s Suicide Prevention Program and two federal grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Data: The applicant will submit timely and accurate project evaluation data as requested. This includes monthly Suicide Ideation Referral forms (SIRF) and end-of-year surveys and reports by Peer Leaders, school staff, and Adult Advisors. Funding for the second half of the grant will be awarded after ample end-of-year data collection.

Eligibility: The applicant is an 'eligible entity' for the Idaho Lives Project as a public Idaho junior high/middle school or high school.

Coordinated Approach: The school’s activities to be implemented will take into consideration other educational agency and/or community programs in order to assure a coordinated approach and to avoid duplication of effort.

Training Facility: A safe and easily accessible facility that meets Sources of Strengthguidelines will be provided for Gatekeeper, Adult Advisor and Peer Leader trainings.

Adult Advisors: The applicant will identify and support four to ten Adult Advisors from the school or community who meet Sources of Strength guidelines for Adult Advisors and who reflect  the diversity of the school as a whole. These Adult Advisors will participate in two days of trainings and facilitate ongoing Sources of Strength activities with school Peer Leader team (approximately 4-5 hours per month).

Peer Leaders: The applicant will nominate and/or retain a diverse student Peer Leader teams using Sources of Strength selection procedures. The applicant will allow Peer Leaders to conduct program meetings and implement program activities/campaigns during regular school hours, rarely using lunchtime. Adult Advisors will assist with and oversee activities/campaign implementation.

Parental Consent: The applicant will obtain active parental consent for Sources of Strength Peer Leaders before and allow all Peer Leaders to participate in trainings.

Materials Requirements: All materials associated with the program will include the Idaho Lives Project logo and funding statement to be provided by ILP.

Key Personnel Changes: Changes in administrator or designated school Sources of Strength contact or co-leads from the date of this document through the end of the 2022/2023  school year will be reported to the SDE.

Legal Authority: The applicant has the legal authority to conduct all activities proposed to be funded under this project.

Deficiencies: The applicant will request support to correct/address deficiencies in program operations, or any program issues that are identified through Idaho Lives Project team or State Department of Education State Coordinator for Youth Suicide Prevention and Safety Coordination.
