The Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to participate in search and rescue operations. More detailed information about this course can be found here.
The course is run over 1 day and 1 evening, outside daylight saving times as the evening session must be run in the dark. The pre-requisite pool swim is generally conducted in the week prior to the course.
Pre-requisites for this course include:
- be at least 16 years of age
- be a financial member of their Surf Life Saving Club
- hold and be proficient in the SLSA Bronze Medallion
- able to complete a 400 metre swim in 8 minutes or less in a swimming pool of no less than 25m length
In SNB, Candidates will be required to complete the first 50m of the pool swim within 45 seconds.
Candidates must also have the ability to duck dive approx 3 metres to retreive an object, in the open water. While not a pre-requisite, candidates MAY be given the opportunity to demonstrate this skill in a pool when the pre-requisite swim is conducted, and guidance on how to improve this skill if required.
