Location of Proposed Intervention/Innovation: Virtual/ Online
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to explore the impact that affirmations have on students' self-perception and academic motivation.
The main questions are:
1. What effect does saying daily affirmations have on one's self-perception?
2. What effect does saying daily affirmations have on one's motivation to learn?
Participation: The child will be asked to answer a brief survey about their self-esteem. The survey will be submitted online. Afterward the child will choose if they prefer to say a list of affirmations each day, or if they would prefer to sing along with the provided mp3. The child will then say or sing the affirmations for 14 days.
At the end of the time period, the student will answer the same self-esteem survey via an online form. This final survey will also ask the child how often they completed the affirmations, if they had any challenges with saying the affirmations, if they have any other comments about their self-esteem or this study. Your child may decline to answer any or all of the questions.
Risks: There are no foreseeable risks to the subject.
Personal Benefits: There will be no personal benefits to you from your participation in this research.
Time: Your child's participation in the action research study will take approximately 90 minutes over a period of two weeks. This includes the time needed to complete both surveys and say or sing the affirmations on a daily basis.
The duration of this research project is 14 days. Your child is free to stop saying the affirmations at any point during the study. Your child may complete the final survey even if all 14 days have not been completed. Your child is also free to decline completing the final survey.
Voluntary: Your participation in this research is strictly voluntary. You may refuse to participate at all, or choose to stop your participation at any point in the research without fear of penalty or negative consequence. If you decide to remove your child from the study before it concludes please let the researcher know. If you choose to share why your child is leaving, your reasons may be kept as part of the study record.
Confidentiality: The information/data you provide for this research will be treated confidentially, and all raw data will be kept in a secured file by the researcher. Personally identifiable information will not be shared.
Review of Research: You also have the right to review the results of the research if you wish to do so. A copy of the results may be obtained by contacting the researcher: Jennifer Nelson Jennifer@Flexidemics.com
