POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting directly to and working closely with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to build out the development function for the organization's $5.6 million and growing operating budget, the Vice President, Development will work in partnership with the CDO to create the organization's fundraising strategy and lead the implementation of the activities needed to reach National CARES’s goals. The VP, Development will manage and, in some cases, build the organization's fundraising plans—in partnership with the CDO and Institutional Partnerships Manager—including major gifts, annual giving, institutional giving, corporate partnerships, planned giving, and special events. The VP, Development will expand and diversify National CARES's base and develop a deeper pipeline of donors, stewarding them to both invest in National CARES and become mission ambassadors. The VP, Development will work closely with the CDO and other team members to secure funding for existing and new initiatives as National CARES expands.
The role requires an excellent relationship manager and creative thinker, with an entrepreneurial mindset, who is a strong advocate for the children and families that National CARES serves and is motivated by a desire to serve the community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Leadership:
- Collaborate in the development of the organization’s fundraising vision, strategy and development to align with the overall organizational strategy
- Provide leadership and support to the Board of Directors to strengthen their ability to participate in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors
- Identify best-in-practice development strategies and create plans on how to implement into the team’s practices
- Set clear benchmarks, regularly reflect on progress through data tracking analysis, and adjust tactics as necessary to meet revenue goals
- Partner with the executive team to implement a comprehensive fundraising campaign focused on recurring revenue and new donor acquisition
- In conjunction with the Program team, provide insight into the preparation of materials and communications for National CARES donors and supporters
Fundraising Strategy and Execution:
- Develop and manage the execution of the development team’s strategy to ensure long-term, diversified fund development that meets the needs of the organization
- With the CEO, CDO and board, identify, develop and cultivate major gift prospects—individual corporate, government and foundation—and develop and execute closing, stewardship and growth strategies tailored to each revenue stream
- Proactively design and execute new and creative donor engagement strategies
- Develop customized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans; have the capacity to identify new donors
- Regularly participate in the creation of necessary materials to report progress to the Board of Directors
Qualifications and Skills:
- Commitment to the mission and vision of CARES
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- A minimum of 8 years of nonprofit development experience
- Experience securing six figure gifts
- Goal-oriented with a track record of utilizing a solutions-focused approach to overcoming challenges
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Collaborative approach to leadership that thrives in making strong connections to team members, funders and other stakeholders
- Superb written and oral communication skills, with experience communicating effectively in one-on-one and large group settings
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Confident in utilizing data to make decisions and measure results
- Self-initiative and the ability to work independently
- Mature judgement with a high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness
- Expertise in Microsoft Office and proficient in Salesforce
KEY INFORMATION
This position is remote with travel required. The applicant will work from a home office and travel to meet with funders and team members as needed and participate in summits and conferences when appropriate. Phone and video conferencing is required.
The start date is as soon as possible.
Salary range is $135, 000-$150, 000. The role will report to the Chief Development Officer.
