• Youth Mitigation Fund Participating Landlord Letter of Intent

The purpose of this letter of intent is to provide landlords in Northwest Minnesota with the opportunity to participate in the Youth Mitigation Fund. This program seeks to remove housing barriers for young adults under 25 years old that have experienced homelessness. The program reduces barriers to accessing housing by providing renters with additional insurance and support in the tenant application process. Landlords participating in the program agree to modify standard tenant selection criteria based on the financial assurance given by the program, and work to remove any other barriers preventing access to affordable housing. This program provides financial assurance to the landlord, and certifies that property damages and lost rental income can be covered by the Youth Mitigation Fund (up to $3,000 per tenant). This program is available to all landlords that own or manage rental properties in the following counties: Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau. The program is also eligible to those that own or manage rental dwellings or properties that are within the boundaries of the counties listed above, in the following tribal nations: The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, The Red Lake Nation, and The White Earth Nation. Landlords that have vacancies they wish to fill, and are willing to reduce rental barriers for young adults, should complete the letter of intent in this online form. Participating Landlord Letters will be reviewed on a monthly basis. Paper versions may be requested by emailing Margret Treuer: margret@nwmf.org
