The Center values the gift of time made by its interns. We maintain high standards in the way we involve interns and we recognize the importance of interns to our work. This agreement sets out what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you as a San Diego Archaeological Center intern. This is the first step in the application process.
The Center's Intern Bill of Rights:
- The Right to be treated as a co-worker, not as “just free help”.
- The Right to a suitable assignment with consideration for personal preference, temperament, life experience, and education.
- The Right to thoroughly planned, and effectively presented job training.
- The Right to know as much about the organization as possible, including its policies, staff, and programs.
- The Right to continuing education, information about new developments and opportunities.
- The Right to sound guidance and direction by someone who is experienced, well-informed, patient, and thoughtful.
- The Right to an orderly, designated place to work.
- The Right to a variety of experience.
- The Right to be heard, to have a part in planning, to feel free to make suggestions, and to have respect shown for an honest opinion.
- The Right to recognition and expressions of appreciation.
Intern Expectations:
- Interact with all Center visitors in a helpful and courteous manner
- Serve as a goodwill ambassador for the Center in the community
- To attend informative training classes
- To honor my time commitment for all scheduled assignments
- Obey all safety and security rules of the Center
- Maintain a safe, harassment-free, and drug-free workplace
- Respect confidentiality of sensitive information
- Demonstrate conduct appropriate to a representative of the Center
- Respect different points of view concerning cultural traditions, communications, and values
- To be honest and respect the Center’s and other’s property
- I understand that the Center has policies and procedures in the internship Handbook that will be given to me, and that if I do not follow these policies and procedures, or act in any way incompatible with the image or acceptable conduct of the Center, then I will not be able to continue as a intern.
- I will commit to the full duration of this internship.
- I understand that the intern is responsible for reliable transportation to and from Center to partake in the program.
- I agree to record my hours served in the Time Record Sheet
- I understand that if I am scheduled to intern, but miss three consecutive duties without telling my supervisor or by prior arrangement, I may be unable to continue in the internship program.
- I understand that the internship program is an upaid program and there will not be any compensation for these services.
