    The Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) is excited to host the Law Student Summer Program. This program is open to law students around the state, who plan to work in Dallas after the bar exam. It is perfect for first- and second-year law students. The Law Student Summer Program will be conducted primarly virtually via Zoom and will provide a variety of professional development opportunities throughout the summer. The full requirements of the Program are listed below.

    To apply for the Program, please complete the information below. Direct questions to Cherie Harris (cherieh@dayl.com) or Anjie Vichayanonda (anjiev@leguplegal.com). The deadline to apply is April 29, 2022.

    Spots are limited and depend on the number of substantive research projects that are available. Upon selection to the Program, law students will be required to (1) be or become a DAYL member or (2) pay a $10 program participation fee. There is no fee or membership requirement to apply for the Program.

    Applicants selected to the Program will be notified in May.

    Required Programming (must attend all)
    All programs will be conducted via Zoom unless otherwise stated.

  • Part 2
    Additional Programming (may attend all, but must attend at least 5 programs). Additional programming options will be added later.

  • Part 3
    Judicial Hearings


    Attend a minimum of two virtual or in-person hearings and submit for each:

    1)      Name of the court
    2)      Presiding Judge
    3)      Date of the hearing
    4)      3-4 sentence summary of hearing

    Some courts post recordings, while others only show them live through a virtual platform. You can watch live or a recording. Additional information will be provided. 

  • Part 4
    Substantive Project

    Complete one research or substantive Project

    This is optional for those who are interested. Check the box above  if you'd like to be considered for this opportunity.

    You will be assigned a project to complete. An example would be: working with a licensed attorney to develop a resource for low-income Texans explaining the garnishment process and their rights.

  • Part 5
    Small Group Mentoring

    You will be assigned a small mentor group with a licensed attorney.

    There will be periodic virtual meetings throughout the summer. Student participants are expected to attend these meetings, which will be decided by the small group.
