  • The committee exists to foster a more culturally competent and inclusive environment within Student Government Board and across the entire University of Pittsburgh


    The main goals of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee are as follows:

    1. Ensure that all members of Student Government Board are knowledgeable about, and Student Government Board procedures are adequately prepared to, uphold the University of Pittsburgh’s core values and principles, particularly those pertaining to creating a welcoming campus community for all undergraduate students.
    2. Create a more culturally-aware and conscious student body through facilitated training workshops and other events.
    3. Assist the Allocations Committee in understanding the cultural significance and implications of different allocations supplemental and budget requests submitted by student organizations.
    4. Act as a resource to student organizations with the planning of events, projects, and initiatives to ensure that they are culturally inclusive.
    5. Serve as liaisons between the undergraduate student body and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

     

    The Diversity & Inclusion Committee Chair will lead this committee.

  • Expectations

    The duties and responsibilities of each Diversity & Inclusion Committee Member include the following:

    1. Have an open and intercultural mindset, ready to adapt to new situations and learn quickly.
    2. Aid in Student Government Board outreach to the student body
    3. Attend weekly meetings of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee as determined by Chair
    4. Attend at least one SGB Public Meeting per month
    5. Perform the duties of the member's assigned committee role. 

    It is expected that you will be able to attend these meetings and give priority to completing your assigned responsibilities as part of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee over your involvement in other organizations. This includes things that have other mandatory meetings such as Pathfinders, Resident Assistants, Greek Life, etc.
