  • Yearly Meeting (YM23) will be held at the Whanganui Quaker Settlement, and online.

    Yearly Meeting itself starts immediately after dinner on Friday 19 May, and ends just before lunch on Monday 22 May.  The Preparation day (optional) begins after lunch on Thursday 18 May.

  • The Settlement in Whanganui is beautiful!

  • Online or In-person?

    The in-person is no longer available.

    We needed to close off registrations for In-person, to allow firming up of our catering and accommodation numbers.

    Online is still available, for one more week.

    You can still register to participate online.

     

    Preparation Day--is no longer available to choose.

    Preparation Day gives us a day when we can choose to prepare ourselves for Yearly Meeting, separate ourselves from the demands of ordinary life, find some centring for ourselves. Some sharing with others for some of the time can enhance this.

    Preparation Day starts early afternoon on Thursday, runs during the afternoon. It resumes on Friday morning.

    Activities being planned will help us tap into our creative selves, since creativity is a part of our spirituality.

    Since it is part of In-person attendance, it is no longer available to be registered for.

  • Coming to YM23 online

  • Business meetings will be hybrid. The people at the Settlement will be with the YM Clerks, and those present there. It will also be possible to join in the meetings via Zoom. People on Zoom will be able to hear what happens in the room, and will be able to indicate their wish to speak, and be invited by the Clerks to speak; in this case everyone (in the room and on Zoom) will hear what they say.

    Because it costs some money to provide the online facilities, we ask those who attend that way to contribute some money. The price we ask is $25.

    As with other costs, we don't wish for anyone to be excluded for financial reasons. So, Pay as Led applies, allowing you to pay what is suggested, or vary what you pay, less or more.

    Your Monthly Meeting may offer some financial support to you.

  • Accommodation Options

     There are about seven options for accommodation for YM23: 

    Accommodation at The Settlement

    The sleeping-house. Dormitory-style $35 per night (b&b). Linen and towel can be supplied for a one-off cost of $5, otherwise BYO linen, sleeping bag, etc

    The Units. Twin-share (we'll try to give you your preference of room-mate). $50 per night per person (b&b).

    Bring your caravan/motor home. Powered site. $20 per night per person (b&b).

    Tent site. BYO everything, power available. $15 per night per person (b&b).

    Billet. This could be on-site, or elsewhere in Whanganui. $50 per night per person (b&b).

    Accommodation away from The Settlement

    Mt St Joseph Retreat. About 1km from Settlement. Single room. $50 per night per person (b&b).

    Organise your own accommodation. With your friends, or commercially.

     In our allocating accommodation, we will note the people who have their own transport, and who have mobility issues, and try to get a harmonious mix. Obviously, those who register early are more likely to be given their preference.

     

  • Meals Options


     Catering is provided at YM, at the Settlement. The lovely Tess and Grant will cater. All meals are vegetarian. Vegan options are offered most meals. Other dietary needs can be noted, and provided for in many cases.

    Breakfasts

    All accommodation options are planned to be Bed & Breakfast (b&b). That is to say, if you stay away from the Settlement, you would have breakfast in your accommodation, and come to the Settlement for the YM sessions.

    If your accommodation is on-campus at the Settlement, your breakfast will be available in the Common Room.

    Please choose the meals for which you would like to be catered.

    Please note that it is possible to stay at the Settlement on the Wednesday immediately preceding Preparation Day. However, dinner is not available on Wednesday night.

    Thank you for supplying the information that will help us plan for a happy and successful YM23.

    Your registration will be reviewed quickly. Allocations of accommodation will be made as soon as practicable. Some options may disappear when they are filled.

    As indicated earlier, early registrants are more likely to be allocated what they asked for. However, the special needs of some Friends may mean that priorities are shuffled in some cases.

  • Cost and Money

  • The above total includes a $25 registration fee, which helps cover incidental costs (both for online and in-person), which are incidental in the running of a Yearly Meeting.

    We do recognise that times are hard for many people, and we don't want to impose a financial barrier.

    The Settlement has adopted the Pay as Led policy. (Look it up here) We are telling you the cost to NZ YM and the Settlement to run YM23. You may pay that amount, or a different amount. Paying more will help subsidise someone else. Pay less if that is how you are led. In any case, we ask that you pay enough to cover your meals costs.

    If you are in hardship, you can approach your Meeting, who have funds to subsidise people to attend YM.

    Please pay as soon as you can; late completion of registration causes headaches for everyone.

    However. If you are coming in-person and your first preference for accommodation is one of the choices which has limited availability (Units, Mt St Joseph Retreat, billets), it is preferable that you do not pay until your accommodation allocation is confirmed. 

    Please register and pay in advance for Yearly Meeting 2023 by the internet. Please put your surname for the particulars and YM23 as the reference.

    Cash is not a realistic way to pay this year. Enrolment is completed when all the money is received. For anyone who has difficulty making an online transfer of money, we hope that a friend could assist the person by lodging their payment for them.
