    2023 Scholarship Application
    S C H O L A R S H I P   G U I D E L I N E S
     

    Scholarships are awarded to New Orleans area high school seniors who plan to attend Delgado Community College, Dillard University, Loyola University, Southern University at New Orleans, Tulane University, University of New Orleans or Xavier University of Louisiana.

     The following completed documents must be uploaded with the scholarship application:    

    • Two (2) letters of recommendation from individuals who have knowledge of the applicant’s capabilities and are not related to the applicant by blood, marriage, or adoption. One letter from a counselor, coach, or teacher and one letter from a community member, or church representative
    • Official high school academic transcript of coursework completed, including the cumulative GPA

    The application cycle is open until February 28, 2023 at 11:59pm CST.

    Due to the anticipated high volume of applicants, it is strongly recommended  that you submit your letters of recommendation and complete your application as soon as possible.

    Upon completion of initial screening, selected applicants will be contacted for a personal interview. The virtual interviews will be held in April and May, 2023.

  • The New Orleans Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. awards scholarships to one college and six universities in the New Orleans area.  Scholarships will be awarded pending confirmed enrollment at the college or university selected below.

    If an applicant is selected to interview but changes her/his intended college/university, she/he must notify the committee at the time the interview is scheduled. Once an applicant is scheduled for an interview, he/she will only be considered for the college or university entered on this application.

    List the name of the organization(s), the number of years that you have volunteered and the estimated hours of service per year. There is space for three (3) organizations.

    If any of the activities listed below cannot be verified, then you will not receive any credit for that section.
  • Extracurricular School Activities

    List names of clubs/activities you have participated in and years of participation (Do not include sports activities).
  • Extracurricular Sports Participation

    List sports you have participated in and any leadership positions.
  • Extracurricular Community Activities

    Dance, Theater, Creative Writing, Music, etc. List the activity, the name of the organization, & the number of years that you have participated in the activity
  • School & Community Awards & Honors

    List any awards and/or honors you have received.
  • Employment

    List your past and present work and length of time employed.
  • Recommendations

    Please submit recommendations from any TWO of the choices below. Letters must be addressed to the Scholarship & Awards Chairperson, New Orleans Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and should include knowledge of applicant, personal attributes and involvement in extracurricular activities.

    Explain why you are seeking this scholarship. Include any special circumstances or unusual hardships. Your student statement is very important and the Scholarship Committee relies heavily on this statement.
