    SOS-22 is a free 4 week critical designer development programme based in London, UK, hosted by the Koppel Project, the South London Gallery (SLG), and in partnership with the Design Museum. All participants will have the chance to publicise their work and research at a WIP Show (at the Koppel Project) and a final four week exhibition at the South London Gallery (SLG).

    We are particularly interested in applicants from low-income backgrounds, black and ethnic minority communities, those who identify as gender non-binary and other under-represented groups in the fields of Art, Design and Architecture.

    Whilst SOS-22 is a free course we ask for a £75 deposit in advance. This will be returned at the end of the course providing reasonable attendance from the individual participant. If the deposit is likely to be prohibitive for you please get in touch after you have completed the application and we can discuss alternative options.

    The term ‘SOS’ or ‘us’ or ‘we’ refers to the organisation School SOS.
    The information given above is accurate at the time of publication, however, SOS reserves the right to cancel or amend the described courses as circumstances dictate.

    1. Deposit
    1A Full payment of the deposit must be received prior to commencement of the course by the specified date. Your place on the course is not guaranteed until full payment is received.
    1B The full deposit will be returned at the end of the course providing reasonable attendance from the individual participant.
    1C SOS defines reasonable attendance as timely and full participation in 75% of programmed events. Extenuating circumstances will be assessed at SOS' discretion.
    1D Timely and full participation is defined at SOS' discretion.
    1D The full deposit will be returned within 14 days of the final programmed event at SOS-22 and cannot be requested before the programme ends.

    2. Materials and Equipment
    2A Unless stated, the course fee does not include the cost of materials.
    2B Details of any materials to be supplied by the students will be provided prior to the start of the course.
    2C You will need to bring the following equipment: pens, pencils, sketchbooks, scissors, scalpels, gluesticks and a laptop (if applicable).

    3. Cancellation by Us
    3A Please provide proof of ID and date of birth on enrolment. We reserve the right to revoke your application if you cannot provide ID.
    3B Please note that courses have minimum attendance levels and may be cancelled if too few bookings are received.
    3C We reserve the right to: amend courses, change the course location, substitute lecturers and tutors.
    3D If we cancel a course we shall give you at least three week’s notice and will provide a full refund of the course fees only. Refunds can take up to three weeks to clear.
    3E We will not be liable for any losses (including, but not limited to, travel and accommodation costs) arising as a consequence of any modification or cancellation of courses.

    4. Cancellation by the Participant
    4A If you wish to cancel your place on a course your request should be made in writing (via email).
    4B If your written cancellation is received a month or more prior to the course start date, you will be entitled to a full refund.
    4C If your written cancellation request is received within three weeks of the course start date, we may not be able to offer you any refund.

    5. Non-Attendance
    5A Non-attendance of classes due to illness or for personal or professional reasons does not provide the right to refunds or extra tuition.
    5B However, in such an event we will consider all the circumstances and take such action that we consider to be fair and reasonable.

    6. Class Postponement
    6A If a class is postponed for reasons for which we are responsible, including staff illness, we will make every reasonable effort to reschedule the class or to add the missed hours onto the remaining course classes.

    7. Travel
    7A Please ensure that your place is confirmed and the course is running before you make any travel arrangements. We do not offer refunds for travel or accommodation costs.

    8. Visas
    8A All participants travelling from overseas are responsible for securing any visa required and should have their own travel/medical insurance. We recommend you contact the Embassy in your own country to check visa requirements before you book your course. We are unable to assist with visa applications.
    8B. If you cannot attend a course because you have not obtained a visa to enter the UK, no refund will be offered.

    9. Attendee Liability
    9A Each participant is responsible for their personal belongings, work produced, health, personal safety and property / premises damage.
    9B Students are liable for the personal safety of those working around them. Students must act in a responsible manner as not to put others in harm or at risk of injury.
    9C Students leave work in the premises at their own risk. SOS and our partners are not liable for work lost, stolen or damaged at any point during the on and off hours of the course and exhibitions.

    10. Student Code of Behaviour
    10A We ask that you treat each other, the staff and any property belonging to staff, other students, or SOS and our partners with due respect, care and consideration.

    11. English Language
    11A We expect all students to be able to communicate in English to a reasonable level.

    12. Intellectual Property (IP) Policy
    12A Participants shall own copyright in any work they create in the course of their studies at SOS. In relation to a participants artistic work (including any representation or reproduction of that work), SOS shall be entitled to the following (without payment of any fee or royalty)
    12B To reproduce the work for educational and promotional purposes. This would include, by way of example, reproduction of the work in academic publications, promotional materials, web-sites, exhibition catalogues or flyers, databases, leaflets and prospectuses; and/or
    12C To exhibit the work to the public during the course of the student’s studies at SOS; and/or
    12D To exhibit the work to any third party in connection with the student’s studies or in connection with SOS academic and/or research purposes.
    12E If SOS wishes to reproduce the artistic work of a student for any commercial purpose, such reproduction shall be subject to an individual licence on fair and reasonable terms to be negotiated and agreed with the student.

  • Payment Information

     

    1. The full amount must be paid once your application has been approved. We will send payment details with the confirmation email.
    2. Once your application and payment are received you are committing to a place on the course. The place is only guaranteed after the full payment has been made.
    3. A full payment must be made by 1 July 2022.
    4. Please note that if you cancel your confirmed place on the course within 3 weeks of the course start date you may not be refunded.
