  • Cents-Ability – A Presbyterian Hunger Program

A Strategy for Raising Awareness & Funds in the Fight against Hunger
  • Cents-Ability is a small step in the battle against hungerand poverty. Congregations invite every member — of all ages — to contribute afew cents at every meal. This simple act is an expression of thanks for what wehave received. It is also a commitment to share with others in response toJesus’ command “You give them something to eat.”  Members bring theirofferings to Church on the appointed Sunday, all of those coins “making ajoyful noise unto the Lord” as they are received and dedicated. Once sentto the Presbytery of Grand Canyon, these generous offerings are distributed forhunger-related projects to either Congregations or Community Organizationsserving within the geographic boundaries of the Presbytery. These projects mustbe food related and include, but are not limited to, Served Meals; Food Boxesand Gift Cards for Food Purchase.  Funding decisions are made through anapplication process overseen by the Peace & Justice Network. Projects areusually funded in the range of $500.00 - $900.00. Applying for funding does notguarantee that the Hunger-Related Project will be funded.
