According to NCAA D2 legislation [Bylaw 17.02.10], outside competition is defined as any athletics competition against any outside athletics team (including an alumni team) that does not represent Adams State University.
Outside Competition in Sports Other than Basketball
In sports other than basketball, except as exempted in NCAA DII Bylaw 14.7, student-athletes are not permitted to compete in outside competition during the period of their respective sport's designated championship segment.
In wrestling, a student-athlete also may not compete in outside competition during the period between the beginning of the academic year and November 1.
Outside Competition, Basketball
A student-athlete who participates in organized basketball competition outside of Adams State University during the academic year will render themself ineligible.
Exceptions to Outside Competition Regulations:
- High School Alumni Game
- Olympic or Paralympic Games
- Official Pan American or Pareapan American Games, Tryouts, and Competitions
- US National Teams
- Offical World Championships/University Games/University Championships/Youth Championships/Cup Tryouts and Competition
- Multisport Events
Additional Exceptions for Basketball Only:
- Summer Competition
- Puerto Rico Superior Basketball League
- US vs. US National Teams
Involvement of Coaching Staff for Sports Other than Cross Country, Track & Field, Women's Golf, Swimming & Diving, and Wrestling
No member of the Adams State University coaching staff may be involved in any capacity (e.g., coach, official, player or league/team administrator) at any time (i.e., during the academic year, vacation periods and summer) with an outside team that involves any student-athlete with remaining eligibility from Adams State University.
Involvement of Coaching Staff for Cross Country, Track & Field, Women's Golf, Swimming & Diving, and Wrestling
No member of the Adams State University coaching staff may be involved in any capacity (e.g., coach, official, player or league/team administrator) during the academic year (including vacation periods during the academic year) with an outside team that involves any student-athlete with remaining eligibility from Adams State University.
