Michael is a 57 y/o old recreational runner who presents with pain into the left calf while running. Symptoms get worse as his run duration increases. He has tried resting for two weeks but once he returned to running, his symptoms were no better. Michael is consulting with you for physical therapy interventions. How would you treat Michael's leg pain and what are some specific considerations you would educate Michael on for returning to training.
Hailey is a 16 y/o old high school cross country runner. She presents with w/ insidious left groin pain. Her symptoms were initially just with running but since have begun to impact ADLs. Hailey consulted with a pediatrician who diagnosed her with a hip flexor strain due to a negative radiograph. Hailey hasn't run for a week though she continues to have symptoms with all weight bearing activities, prolonged sitting, squatting, rolling over in bed and ascending stairs. She does not experience pain at rest. Hailey had her 1st menstrual cycle at 16 years old. Reports menstrual irregularity since then. Hailey is a vegetarian & reports getting around 1800 kcals a day. What would a physical therapy initial evaluation look like for Hailey and why?
