Rats are social creatures, and need to be in groups of at least 2 (unless there's a unique circumstance). Are you willing to Foster at least 2 rats?

Rats are prone to certain health issues (ex respiratory infections), are you willing/able to take your rat(s) to the vet, and administer any medication if needed (with guidance/assistance from our rescue)?

Are you willing/able to take your rat(s) to an appropriate vet clinic (with exotic specialist) immediately if there is an emergency?

Are you willing/able to reach out to us if any health issue or concern arises with your rat(s), and you're unsure of what to do?

Who will be the primary caregiver for the rat(s)?

Rats require specific cage setups, nutrition, and daily care to ensure proper health and well-being. Can you commit to learning and following our guidance in order to ensure you're providing a suitable, clean setup for your foster rat(s)?

Rats require sufficiently large cages as they are very active and love to climb. Are you willing to acquire a suitable enclosure and provide us with photo/video confirmation with full setup prior to foster approval?

Rats require regular free-roam time (supervised or rat-proof) and interaction with humans on a daily basis. Can you provide this?

How many hours a day of free-roam/human interaction time would you provide your foster rat(s)?

We can't guarantee behaviours/temperament of rat(s), some of which may be undesirable. These can all be corrected with time and proper bonding (often quite quickly). Are you prepared for this possibility?

If you encounter any challenges with your rat(s), are unsure if something is appropriate for them, or have any questions of any kind, will you reach out to us for support and/or consult our rat info sheets provided in the resource section of our website?

Do you have kids and are you able to supervise all interactions between them and your rat(s) (if they are not old enough to interact responsibly).

Do you intend to breed these rats or have them interact with rats of the opposite sex?

Do you intend to use your rat(s) as props for any form of entertainment (classroom, demonstrations, etc...)
