• Curt Chandler Multimedia Immersion Scholarship

  • Curt Chandler spent his 64 years of life mastering the art of storytelling. While he enjoyed many years in the field, it became his passion to teach others to create new and exciting ways to practice visual journalism, whether he was in a professional newsroom or in a college classroom.

    Chandler was known for his drive to help his colleagues, students, family and friends succeed in life. No matter the size of the challenge at hand, Chandler’s loved ones were in awe of his unwavering positivity when overcoming difficult situations.

    Curt Chandler was a long-time coach at the NPPA Multimedia Immersion. Chandler died in Pittsburgh on Jan. 31, 2022, of pancreatic cancer.

  • The NPPA Multimedia Immersion is now accepting applicants for the Curt Chandler Scholarship, a one-time scholarship given to a full-time undergraduate student in print, broadcast, digital, photo, or visual journalism. The deadline is Friday, April 22 by midnight.

     

    Applicants are evaluated on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, work experience, a personal philosophy statement, media samples, and professional references. A committee of media professionals evaluates each application. The recipient is given complimentary registration to the 2022 National Press Photographers Association Multimedia Immersion Workshop in Syracuse, NY, at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications will be held from May 17 to 21, 2022. Eligible students are encouraged to apply. The scholarship does not include travel or room and board. Applicants must be able to cover those expenses themselves.

     

    Eligible students must be enrolled at a college or university at the time of application.
