All cats that are kept as pets within Hindmarsh Shire are required to be registered with Council. In order to be registered they must be microchipped, and in order to be microchipped, you must be able to provide the authorised implanter with a source number.
A source number
- Identifies an individual, breeder, business or organisation.
- Is generated once an individual enrols on the Pet Exchange Register.
- Is automatically allocated to domestic animal businesses (DAB) and foster carers following registration with Council.
In order to participate in this program, you must be able to provide a source number to the participating clinic.
If your cat is not desexed, it is unlikely that you will have a source number. This means that you will be required to register for a source number prior to the appointment.
You can register for a source number ($22.90 application fee as of November 2022) here.
If you require assistance registering for a source number, you can visit any of Council's customer service offices, or call (03) 5391 4444.
