    Fill out this application form if you are interested in being recognized on RISE as a qualified SRA assessor. You can be recognized as either a Social Expert, a Fishery / Aquaculture Expert, or a Social and Fishery / Aquaculture Expert.

  • Social Expert Application Form

    This page is to be filled out for those seeking to obtain Social Expert recognition.
  • To qualify as a social expert, individuals must demonstrate human rights and social sciences expertise. An individual must qualify in at least one of the following categories: 

    1. Experience in social auditing: an experienced social auditor recognized to conduct social assessments, either for a recognized social program, or for a company / industry program.

    OR

    2. Experience assessing or addressing social Issues: an individual who has implemented social science methods to study, assess, or address human rights and social issues in seafood production or processing. Labor unions or worker rights groups seeking to implement the SRA would typically fall into this category. This individual must also either have a degree in a relevant field, or will have received relevant training. Experience can be demonstrated by either:

    • Having led a project employing social science methods
    • Having undertaken at least one informal social audit (e.g., pre-assessment) or human rights risk assessment in the past 5 years, either individually or as part of a team.

     

    You must demonstrate evidence against at least 1 of the 2 categories above. 

  • 1. Experience in Social Auditing

  • "Relevant social standard" refers to other social standards in the seafood industry and in other supply chains, such as the Responsible Fishing Vessel Standard (RFVS), Fair Trade USA's Capture Fisheries Standard, or the AENOR Atun de Pesca Responsable. It may also include other social standards that may not be in the seafood sector, such as Fair Trade USA's Agricultural Production Standard, Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade International, Equitable Food Initiative, FairWild, Fair for Life, GRASP, SA8000, etc.

  • An example of a company or industry program would be an internal audits conducted by a private company, such as Thai Union. or this could also include audits against a private company's Code of Conduct.

  • Fishery / Aquaculture Expert Application Form

    This page is to be filled out for those seeking to obtain Fishery / Aquaculture Expert recognition.
  • Through the recognition process, you will be designated as either a Fishery Expert, an Aquaculture Expert, or a Fishery / Aquaculture Expert according to the application reviewer based on the evidence provided in the application form. If you would like to be recognized as a Fishery / Aquaculture expert, be sure to provide evidence for both.

    To qualify as a Fishery or Aquaculture expert, individuals must demonstrate basic knowledge of fisheries or aquaculture. An individual must qualify in at least one of the following categories:  

    1. University degree.

    Fisheries: Fisheries, biology, fisheries or marine management, environmental management

    Aquaculture: Aquaculture, biology, environmental management

    OR 

    2. Training, experience, approval, recognition, or accreditation to audit against a fisheries, vessel, or aqauaculture standard.

    This may include company codes of conduct or other company programs. This may also include informal assessments, such as pre-assessments, for a relevant program. 

    Fisheries: Marine Stewardship Council, Fair Trade USA CFS, RFVS, Marin Trust, STF Auditable Standard, Thai Union Vessel Code of Conduct, etc.

    Aquaculture: Aquaculture Stewardship Council, Best Aquaculture Practices, Global G.A.P., etc.

     OR 

    3. At least two years of other relevant fishery / aquaculture experience.

    Fisheries: e.g., conducting stock assessments, fisheries research, fisheries management, working on a commercial or subsistence vessel, health and safety inspections on vessels, etc.

    Aquaculture: e.g., aquaculture research, technical aquaculture experience, workers as a farmer or worker on a farm, health and safety inspection on aquaculture farms, etc.

     OR

    4. MSC's Register: listed as a current technical consultant or associate technical consultant. 

    Fisheries only

     OR

    5. FisheryProgress Database of Qualified Consultants: listed in the FisheryProgress Database and currently meeting the FisheryProgress consultant criteria for comprehensive FIPs

    Fisheries only
