What is TRiO- Student Support Services?

TRiO – Student Support Services is a FREE federally funded program through the Department of Education, committed to providing a supportive environment to improve academic performance, increase retention and assist with graduation and successful transfer to a 4-year institution. TRiO provides comprehensive individualized services around academic support, mentoring, financial guidance, career and professional development.

Who is eligible to participate in TRiO?
Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent resident, accepted to or currently enrolled at Truman College, seeking an associate degree or certificate, and planning to transfer to complete a bachelor’s degree program within four years of application date.

Students must also meet at least one of the following criteria:

1. Income-eligible (guidelines set by U.S. Department of Education)
2. First generation (neither parent has a bachelor’s degree)
3. Eligible for accommodations for a disability (verified with Truman's ACCESS)

The application is pretty straight forward, but if you get confused or have questions you are able to save your work and resume the application later. It is important that you use the same computer if you need to stop the application and resume at a later time.

Students who have a disability, as defined by Section 504/ADA, may be eligible for participation in TRiO Student Support Services as a result of the educational needs stemming from a disability

If you answered Yes, and you are not currently working with the Access Center, we will ask you to provide a copy of your documented disabilty.

The information you provide to the TRiO Student Support Services Program will be used to verify your program eligibility to the Federal Government. Your personal information will be protected under the Federal Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974. No one will have access to the information unless they work with or for Truman College and/or TRiO.

I authorize the TRiO Student Support Services Program staff to gather information concerning all my academic progress (standardized test scores, grade point average, earned credit, transcripts, tutoring, etc and financial aid status prior to my participation in the program.

I also grant permission to the  Access Center to release information to the TRiO Program if I fall under the disability status. I understand this information is used to help determine my eligibility for the program and is kept strictly confidential.

I authorize SSS staff to gather information concerning all my financial aid information (including income tax information) prior to my participation in the program. I understand that this information is used to help determine my eligibility for the program and will be kept strictly confidential.

I grant permission to the TRiO Student Support Services Program to gather follow up information whenever appropriate, including, but not limited to, transfer and progress to 4-year institutions. I am aware that my eligibility and financial aid status will be reported to the U.S. Department of Education in accordance with the grant funding regulations. I also agree to provide documentation upon request to verify the information reported.

I grant permission for the TRiO Student Support Services program to use quotes or words I used in addition to photographs of myself produced at any Truman College program for publication or promotional pieces.
