In celebration of Pride Month and the success of last year's Open Call (PRIDE: A Celebration of Diversity, Identity & History), Culture Lab LIC is happy to launch the open call: FREE TO BE.
We are looking to show the way we live, we love, we express ourselves in our own personal worlds, reclaiming historical norms and conventions, and redefining our place in society.
Lissa Rivera :
“I am interested in freedom and how queerness offers an escape from proscribed norms.”
Orestes Gonzalez :
“Celebrating inclusivity and diversity in all its manifestations is what compels us to create this event for all of us to learn from.”
All artists (gay, straight, binary and non-binary) are welcome to submit
All mediums accepted
Performance artists must include a video of their work upon submission
All artists are encouraged to participate, however priority will be given to artists who have never exhibited with Culture Lab LIC
No artwork previously shown at The Plaxall Gallery will be considered
International submissions must provide the costs of delivery and logistics
Submission Deadline: May 18
Acceptance Announcement: May 21
Delivery of work at the Gallery: May 27- May 29
Opening date: June 2, 2022
Opening reception: June 4, with live performances.
Pick-up of artwork: July 31 after 9pm or August 1 by 1pm

Culture Lab LIC is a 501(c)(3) formed to bring accessible high quality art of all genres to our community, and to support local artists by providing rehearsal, performance, exhibition space, as well as a robust residency program. CL is dedicated to upholding, equity, diversity and inclusion across all our platforms. Operating out of a 12,000 square foot art center, Culture Lab LIC hosts two fine art galleries, a 90 seat theatre, classroom space, and an 18,000 square foot outdoor venue, made possible by the generous donation of space from Plaxall Inc.
