Description of Opportunity
The seafood industry has spent the past three decades addressing sustainability through research, certifications, improvement projects and more. Yet the industry’s relationship to climate change is a relatively new question with limited, although growing, attention and resources.
And time is of the essence. Climate related impacts are disrupting the industry, with more to come, potentially leading to the collapse of fisheries, economies and viability of the sector.
If innovators, from researchers to product developers to entrepreneurs, have increased attention and resources they can help address this award and allow the seafood industry to be a leader in the climate movement.
The Seafood Industry Climate Award is looking for proposals for early stage research, programs or start ups that will lead to the reduction of the seafood industry’s carbon footprint. Solutions must address sourcing, manufacturing or human well being and will be scored by judges on their innovativeness, potential impact and diversity of team and target audience.
