Foster Application
  • Thank you for your support and for considering a volunteer position with us.

Please fill out the application form below to apply to become a foster caregiver.
Only applications that are filled out entirely will be reviewed. A member of the foster coordinating team will be in touch with you if we would like to move forward with your application.

  • Before filling out this application it is important to understand Riverview Rescues is an all breed and size rescue. Our foster coordinators match a foster dog with your capabilities and your lifestyle. Our foster families do not get to choose which dog they'd like to foster based on breed and size. In the event that you'd like to foster a specific breed or sized dog, we urge you to apply with a breed specific rescue as we rescue on need not breed. Our foster coordinators take all the information from your interview, and discussions to determine the best suited fit for your family and lifestyle. Do you understand and agree to be open to the best match, not looks or breed?*
  • Fosters must be within a 2 hour radius to Ottawa & Renfrew County. Our vet appointments are in Ottawa and we appreciate our fosters willingness to bring their foster to the vet. Are you within the 2 hour radius and willing to travel ?*
  • Format: (000) 000-0000.
  • Is everyone in the household in agreeance with fostering an animal ?
  • What are you interested in fostering ?
  • All our foster's personal animals must be vaccinated AND sterilized in order to foster with us. If a dog or cat transmits something to your dog or cat, the rescue is not responsible to vetting associated with this. If your dog or cat is vaccinated you minimize the risks for your animal. Regular deworming is also recommended while fostering as many dogs and puppies have worms. Do you understand?*
  • Do you have a fenced yard?
  • Do you understand dogs take time to settle into their environments, by committing to a dog in need you're agreeing to take this dog on until adoption, or until another agreement (months, weeks)is made. If you are unable to care for the dog anymore, we must find a suitable placement for the animal before it can be moved. Please do not move forward with the fostering process if you're not committed to making this work. Do you understand*
  • Are you comfortable fostering an animal with special needs?
  • Have you ever fostered for a registered animal rescue or shelter before ?
  • If you answered YES to the above question please complete the next question. If you are not comfortable with special needs fosters please skip this section.

  • Which of the following medical needs are you comfortable with? Please select all that you would feel confident doing.
  • Are you comfortable fostering an animal with behavioural needs?
  • If you answered YES to the above question please complete the next question. If you are not comfortable with foster animals that have behavioural needs please skip this section.

  • Which of the following behavioural needs are you comfortable with? Please select all that you would feel confident working to correct.
  • Foster dogs MUST be crated when you leave the home and when they're unsupervised. Do you agree to crate training and using the crate consistently ?
  • Our regular and committed fosters use our “respite” care when they’re unable to watch their foster dogs. Do you have any trips planned or are you open and available for fostering in the immediate future. If you have trips planned please apply at a later date as our respite is reserved for emergencies and planned trips with notice
  • Many of our new fosters love the idea of fostering, but once the dog is in their care they decide this is to much and they no longer want to foster. Do you understand this is a serious commitment that not only the dog is relying on but also the rescue ?
  • When fostering with Riverview Rescues we do not permit off leash activity, dog parks or socialization with dogs that are not spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Dogs must be kept on leash, with two points of contact. If within fenced in yard, dogs must be supervised at all times. Our dogs do not live outdoors, they must not be tied outside unattended.*
  • Do you currently foster with another organization?
  • Please provide us 2 references of people that live outside your household.

  • Although Riverview Rescues does everything in our power to assess the animal before placing it in foster care we do not guarantee ages, breeds, and temperament. If an animal becomes aggressive towards a person, another animal, or household items it is the full responsibility of the foster, not Riverview Rescues. We will do everything within our power to prevent any such issues from occurring and help you, the foster, prevent any such issues from occurring.
