• Internships at Art Works

    Located in the Manchester district of Richmond, Virginia, Art Works opened in 2003 and provides 80 studios for artists to make, display and sell artwork and four galleries for exhibits. The art center host monthly art shows featuring local and national artists. The art center is connected to the community and is involved in various programs throughout the year. Art Works offers four internships. Each internship offers the candidate insight and experience in the operations of an art center. Interns are paid an hourly stipend.

  • A. Art Center Administration Internship

    Office Administration and Clerical Administration. In this role the candidate will open and close the art center 2 days per week. The candidate will meet with visitors and provide information about the exhibits, studios, artists and artwork. Responsibilities include clerical tasks such as: answering the phone, sorting mail, answering emails, receiving payments for rent and processing sales of artwork. Additionally the candidate will prepare brochure package handouts, mail marketing material to organizations and clients, and update and maintain Art Works mail list. The total hours are 14 per week, one weekday and on Sundays.
  • B. Social Media and Marketing

    Social Media Management. In this role the candidate will create and schedule social media postings and events across various platforms. Postings and events will be shared with social media friends and groups. The candidate will keep current of trends and how they may apply to the art center. Postings will be in keeping with Art Works' brand. The total hours are 20 per month.
  • C. Displays and Building Maintenance

    Gallery Display Preparation and Studio Gallery Building Maintenance. In this role the candidate will arrange and hang wall displays, create labels and associated clerical work for the artist's display. Additionally the candidate will ensure the gallery is presentable by sweeping floors, watering plants, changing light bulbs, touching up paint for gallery walls and pedestals, arranging tables and furniture. Candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds. The total hours are 28 hours per month.
  • D. Gallery Exhibit Openings

    Reception and Event Preparation and Administration. In this role the candidate will assist in preparing exhibits for gallery openings. This includes hanging shows, creating labels, lighting, preparing catalogs, creating displays for slide shows, greeting guests, preparing refreshments, arranging tables, creating signage, and attending the reception. The total hours are 16 per month and occur on the week of 4th Fridays.
