Code of Conduct / Code de Conduite
(lire la version française du Code de Conduite)
The aim of the Plurality University Network's Code of Conduct is to support a community where all people feel welcome to participate, introduce new ideas and inspire others, discuss and improve their own and others’ ideas, regardless of background, race or ethnicity, geographic location, gender, sexual orientation, language, age, ability, social status, religion, etc.
Openness, creativity, collaboration, and participation are core values of the Plurality University. To produce plurality, we need diversity - of people, practices, and ideas.
These guidelines exist to enable diverse individuals and groups to interact and collaborate to mutual advantage. To this end, they outline both expected and prohibited behavior.
What we expect
- Agree to disagree, be open to other ideas and expression as well as to the possibility of being wrong or of not knowing what is right.
- Be respectful, value each other’s ideas, styles and viewpoints.
- Be direct but professional, express disagreements clearly but respectfully, in a way that will help all parties to keep the discussion going and improve on each other’s ideas.
- Be inclusive, seek diverse perspectives, encourage all voices, help new perspectives be heard and listen actively. Don’t let dominant members or opinions of the group (including yourself) exclude others. Provide alternative ways to contribute or participate when possible.
- Appreciate our differences, be respectful of people with different cultural practices, attitudes and beliefs, work with empathy to eliminate your own biases. Think of others’ needs from their point of view. Be open to learning from and educating others as well as educating yourself.
- Respect people’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
What we won’t accept
- Personal attacks and negative comments on personal characteristics.
- Violence and threats of violence.
- All kinds of harassment, including unwanted sexual attention, derogatory language related to background, race or ethnicity, geographic location, appearance, gender, sexual orientation, language, age, ability, social status, religion...
- Trolling, sustained disruption of discussions, deliberate creation of hostility or intentional effort to devalue or exclude people for all other reasons than the violation of the present Code of Conduct.
