    Identifying Your Preferred Style
  • Research indicates that there are four general types of behavioral styles. Everyone has a personal style of interacting and communicating that is developed and learned. However, your style may not always be the best style for a particular situation, function, responsibility or team member. The good news is that you have the ability to adapt your style to become more effective. In order to do this, you need to assess your style and learn about alternatives.

By identifying and understanding your “preferred” style, you can increase your personal effectiveness both at home and at work. The following assessment will help you identify your style.

    INSTRUCTIONS:
Circle the response to each of the following situations that best describes your
behavior at work. Select the response that best fits you most of the time.
Choose your response by how you actually behave, not how you think you should
    behave.
As you complete this assessment, keep in mind the following:
    • There is no “best” style.
    • This is not a test – the “right” answer is the one that best describes you.
    • Don’t overanalyze your selections – when in doubt, go with your first instinctive
    response.
