  • While on land managed by NZAS, you must observe all NZ laws applying to conservation land and the coastline and may not, without a specific written authorisation:

    Do not light any fires, use firearms, dig any holes, deviate from formed roads and tracks, erect any structures, leave any litter or disturb or remove native flora or fauna.

  • CONDITIONS OF ACCESS

    • Present this letter to the security contractor at the gatehouse each time access is required. Key is obtained from NZAS gatehouse and must be returned on leaving site (Access letter will be held at security for the duration of the visit).
    • Be prepared to prove your identity if requested by the Security Contractor. Note: All people requiring access must be named in this letter.
    • All vehicles entering the Peninsula are liable to inspection by the Security Contractor.
    • No dogs allowed on the Peninsula.
    • Follow the Security Contractor’s instructions on access route to be taken. (Access is not through the main gate, but through the east access adjacent to the water reservoir)
    • All NZ traffic laws apply on the peninsula, including a speed limit of 50kms/hr.
    • Advise the Security Contractor of your expected departure time.
    • NZAS is not liable for damage incurred to any vehicle while it is on land managed by NZAS.
    • The Department of Conservation only permits vehicle access into the Waituna Wetlands Reserve to about one kilometre past the farmhouse at the east end of the Peninsula. This is almost to the first tarn. Some tracks are only suitable for 4 wheel vehicles. No vehicles are permitted on the dunes or the cushion bog areas behind the dunes.
    • Swimming or fishing off the Tiwai wharf is not permitted.
    • It is your responsibility to obtain all appropriate DOC licences for your activity to be carried out on Tiwai Peninsula.
