What is the DAISY Nurse Leader Award?

The DAISY Nurse Leader Award recognizes the incredible work the nurse leaders do every day. The environment created by nurse leaders is a strong factor in how direct care nurses take care of patients.

At the Lexington VA Health Care System Nurse Leaders include, Nurse Executives, Chief Nurses, Nursing Supervisors, Nurse Managers, Assistant Nurse Managers, Nurse Educators, Case Managers, Disease-specific Coordinators, Charge Nurses, Informatics Nurses, Lead LPN's and other roles with administrative authority / direct reports.

How to Nominate a Nurse Leader

Please describe the impact using the criteria below, providing as much detail as possible with examples to help with selection.

Criteria for DAISY Nurse Leader Nominee:

• role model for compassion and exemplary practice
• creates an environment where attributes of trust, compassion, mutual respect, continued professional development and ethical behavior are modeled and supported
• motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for themselves and for their patients
• is a mentor to all staff - accessible, available, and responsible to the needs of others, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving for individuals and with the context of teams
• embraces and role models Evidence Based Practice
