I understand that there is no such thing as a micro or tea cup pig. A potbelly pigs average weight is between 75-150 pounds. Some bigger and some smaller. Potbelly pigs grow until they are 5 years old. Underfeeding the pig will not change its skeletal size and will only lead to health and behavioral issues. Overfeeding can also severely cause harm to the pig. I will reach out for help with diet questions regarding my pig if I am not sure of something.
I understand that rooting is a basic instinct of pigs and ALL pigs will root to some degree. I understand that my pig will want activities to keep him/her busy. I understand that a bored pig can be a destructive pig.
I understand that dogs and pigs must NEVER be left unsupervised together. Pigs are natural prey and dogs are natural predators. Even the sweetest dog can attack and severely harm or kill a pig if provoked.
I understand that a pig can become territoral. This can include snapping, charging or even biting to varying degrees. In the wild, pigs are herd animals, and it is a natural instinct for them to try to test their dominance and become "top hog". I agree to research and work with my pig on behavioral modification techniques such as "move the pig" and "shun the pig" if my pig does become territorial or tests me or my family in any way.
I understand that spaying and neutering of pigs is ESSENTIAL not only for reproduction purposes, but also for behavioral and physical health reasons.
I understand that I am adopting a pig and a pig is what i will allow him/her to be. I understand that he/she has specific needs basic to his/her nature and I will strive to meet those needs.
