The Equity Diversity Committee and MEAA have collaborated to create Equity’s first annual Survey for all performers in theatre, screen and dance.
The Survey has multiple purposes which are:
- To capture a snapshot on how performers are getting along since the new era of living with COVID;
- To gather the lived experiences, roadblocks and challenges faced by performers/creatives who are disabled, Indigenous, gender diverse, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, racial minorities and beyond who may experience marginalisation;
- To gather the lived experiences, roadblocks and challenges faced by senior performers/creatives who may face ageism;
- To help MEAA better represent the industry in bargaining for industry wide agreements on wages and conditions;
- To provide performers with the opportunity to let us know if you want to learn more about MEAA and what we can do together to bring about a better future for you and your fellow creatives; and,
- To gather and measure the level of support from performers/creatives to help with the upcoming Equity Diversity campaign to ensure our industry is representative of the nation that it serves.
Every jurisdiction in the world has shown that when a theatre, screen and dance industry becomes more representative, it means larger audiences both domestically and globally - which translates to more jobs for all performers/creatives nation wide.
Your answers will be confidential and de-identified to form the basis of our first annual report on the state of the Industry according to you, the performers.
Your answers will help MEAA, as the collective of its members, prosecute the case for greater positive change in the industry. Your answers will help with the fight for a more inclusive industry by enabling the MEAA and EDC to point to the concrete issues identified in the survey that need challenged and changed, and your answers will be instrumental in implementing solutions.
