Thank you for taking the time to learn about the issues important to UFCW 3000 and our members. The goal of our process is to better understand your background and priorities, and to give you an opportunity to get to know our organization. Please do not hesitate to ask us questions throughout this process; we hope to be a resource for you now and moving forward.

We represent over 50,000 members working in grocery, retail, health care, meat packing, cannabis, and other industries across Washington State, north-east Oregon, and northern Idaho. Cannabis industry workers in our state face numerous, unique industry-specific workplace threats, like unsafe conditions related to chemical exposure during cultivation, or to robberies and wage & hour violations compounded by the industry's near-exclusive reliance on cash transactions. Given that industries with higher rates of unionization often report safer and more equitable working conditions, do you support legislation that lowers the barriers to unionization and collective bargaining for cannabis workers, to help them better manage these industry-specific risks and improve their overall work environment? Why or why not?*
With reports of increasing organized retail theft and its associated risks of workplace violence, particularly affecting grocery workers, what specific measures would you advocate to enhance worker safety and address the issue? Do you think employers should be investing more in employee safety and security?*
As consolidation continues in both the grocery and health care industries (think Kroger-Albertsons proposed merger or major hospital consolidation), how would you ensure fair labor standards for workers are protected? As it relates to health care, what policies would you support to protect public health and patients to ensure the best standards of care for all of our communities?*
In light of increasing reports of inadequate workplace standards, including issues such as wage theft, extreme heat conditions exacerbated by climate change, and other health and safety concerns, what specific actions would you support to address these kinds of issues, and how do you strengthen enforcement? How would you ensure these standards are consistently upheld across all industries, and what resources do you believe are necessary to effectively protect workers and hold corporations accountable?*
What is your position on extending unemployment insurance benefits to all workers in Washington State, including those workers who are undocumented, in cases of labor strikes?
The housing crisis in our state is a predominant concern for our members, with many struggling with the high cost of rent and affordable housing. What bold and concrete strategies would you endorse to not only build more affordable housing units but also to control out of control rents, ensuring that housing is truly affordable for our members?
