Terry Sheehan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labour and Seniors, and Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie is pleased to open the nomination process for the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
The Coronation Medal was created to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, which took place on May 6, 2023. It is the first Canadian commemorative medal to mark a coronation.
MP Sheehan has been allocated 20 medals for the entire region. Further to MP Sheehan’s allotment, partner organizations will nominate and present medals to individuals who meet the medal’s eligibility criteria. The list of partners was developed by the Government of Canada.
MP Sheehan requests that any applications where distinguished service to one’s community is through or contributes to one of the partner organizations, that applications be sent to the appropriate partner.
Nominees who are not associated to a partner organization will be prioritized in the selection process to ensure as many Saultites receive medals as possible.
To be eligible for this honour, a person must have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region of, or community in, Canada, or attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada; and have been alive on May 6, 2023, the date of The King’s Coronation. Through their achievements and sustained contributions, nominees will have distinguished themselves from others in the same field.
For MP Sheehan's allotment, all nominees must have be residents of the Riding of Sault Ste. marie on May 6, 2023. Please visit https://www.elections.ca/home.aspx to determine whether the nominee resided in the riding.

Medals may only be award to individuals; no groups or organization nominations will be accepted.
When nominating a candidate, solely listing accomplishments is not sufficient. Please include details and examples of their sustained and distinguished service, along with timeframes of their contributions. It is also helpful to understand the broader community impact of their actions. A nomination must include a biography of the candidate, a description of the candidate and nominator’s relationship, contact information for the candidate and nominator, and any additional evidence that will aid in the final decision.
