Dear NYSEDRA,
On Behalf of the Buffalo Niagara Builders Association, the surrounding home building company's and the home building support industry, we are writing you to urge you to consider the negative effects of the New York’s 2019 Climate Act would have on this area.
This Act has set emision goals that have outlined a decarbonization policy. There is a Draft Scoping Plan that has been released by the state’s Climate Action Council for these targeted goals. We know how drastic this can effect the home building industry not to mention support industries. Appliances for home and water heating, cooking and laundry will all be effected. Prices of making new products just to support electricity solely will be astronomically high. New homes will have to re design the hook ups and home structures just to accomidate the mandates.
In the Western New York area alone will be devestated when the temperatures drop and gas will not be adequately avaliable for heating, cooking and other essentials. This is a safety issue in this area.
This plan proposes converting nearly everything to electric power, relying on new wind and solar energy to replace natural gas. We need to act now and ensure that you know the importance of keeping natural gas as an energy source.
Sincerely,
Mark Longo,
President, Buffalo Niagara Builders Association
