Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Requirements CSACMAC, N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.3
Each level of the dwelling is required to have a smoke alarm. The smoke alarm shall be a ten-year sealed battery-powered single station or AC (electrically powered) depending on what year the dwelling was built in accordance with the following table.
Smoke Detectors:
· Before 1977 - Ten-year sealed battery-powered smoke alarm on center of ceiling hall adjacent to bedrooms and each living level including basement.
·1977 – 1980 - AC powered smoke alarm in hall adjacent to bedrooms, ten-year sealed battery-powered smoke alarms on remaining levels.
·1981 – 1983 - AC powered smoke alarm in hall adjacent to bedrooms and in basement (if applicable), these must be interconnected. Ten-year sealed battery-powered smoke alarm on remaining levels.
·1984 – 1990 - AC powered smoke alarms on all levels. They must be interconnected.
·1991 – 1992 - AC powered smoke alarms in all bedrooms, in hallway in the vicinity of bedrooms and on all levels. They must be interconnected.
·1992 – present - AC powered smoke alarms in all bedrooms, in hallway in the vicinity of bedrooms and on all levels, interconnected with battery backup.
Special installations: Some dwellings may have a monitored NFPA 72 system substituted at time of construction in place of the AC Powered smoke alarms. In these situations, a certified alarm contractor or electrician must perform the inspection and a certificate of compliance is needed for our certification to be issued. Our Office cannot test these systems.
Carbon Monoxide: Alarm shall be in the common hall outside of but within 10 feet of the bedroom doors. May be battery or plug in type.

51-3 Number to be visible from public road.
The owner in possession of any building for which an official number is designated shall be required, at his or her own expense, to place the official number in a conspicuous place so that it is clearly visible from the public street or road upon which the building fronts or from which ingress and egress may be gained. The number shall be placed in such a location as to make it clearly evident which driveway provides ingress and egress to the building so numbered. Numbers placed on mailboxes for mail delivery purposes shall not satisfy the requirements of this chapter unless the location of said mailbox is immediately adjacent to and on the same side as the driveway providing ingress and egress. The number may be placed on the building, provided that it can be seen and read from the public road; otherwise, it must be placed near the intersection of the driveway with the public road. In the case of a commercial unit within a shopping center, the number must be readily visible from the main traffic circulation aisle of the center. The color of the numeral shall be in sharp contrast to the color of its background, and it shall be of a bright or reflective material so as to be readily visible at night when a light is cast upon it
