PHILOSOPHY
Educational therapy is a long-term process, usually involving several years of work. Most students require a minimum of three years to produce measurable gains in academic/classroom work.
Educational therapy does not seek to improve academic areas directly as tutoring does, but instead focuses on improvement of a person’s areas of difficulty in perceptual and cognitive functioning.
Parental involvement and student cooperation are keys to the success of the program. Diligence and regularity in completion of homework, particularly Rhythmic Writing are essential for progress.
Annual testing will be done over one or two sessions, but will only count as one session. Periodic parent conferences count as half to one session, depending on length.
PARENT/GUARDIAN INVOLVEMENT
Attendance periodically in order to become acquainted with the therapy process and throughout the year as requested by therapist, student, or parent/guardian.
Supervision of Rhythmic Writing at home on non-therapy days and supervision of other assigned homework.
Purchase materials needed, keep track of calendar, and make payments on time.
Good communication is key to success!
ABSENCES
Sessions missed due to therapist illness or schedule conflict will be made up. Student has flex room with 66-70 sessions during the school year/summer. Student unexcused sessions after the predetermined year will not be made up.
24-48 hours advance notice for student absences must be given, unless there are extenuating circumstances such as illness.
Rescheduling sessions will be done on Mondays or Fridays depending on availability of the therapist and are not guaranteed.
Full or partial sessions missed due to internet or computer issues will be time added to the end of the contract.
OBLIGATIONS
The Parent/Guardian is responsible for all payments. Monthly payments are due at the beginning of the month, after the invoice is sent. Payments after the 10th of the month will incur a late fee.
No refunds will be given for the enrollment/technology fee.
No refunds will be given if a student does not complete the program.
TERMINATION OF CONTRACT
The Thinking and Learning Center reserves the right to suspend or terminate the enrollment of a student due to behavioral issues or if financial obligations are not met. No refunds will be given.
Conferences and a probationary period will preceed a termination of contract.
CANCELLATION OF CONTRACT
If the parent/guardian wish to terminate contract, a two month notice is requested.
All session payments must be up to date. No refunds will be given.
CONFERENCES
A conference will be held in the Spring with the student and parent/guardian or just parent/guardian. This agreement will be renewable at that time, subject to approval of both parties, for another school year.
A mid-year conference is optional and phone calls or emails are always welcome.
Conferences will count as a part or whole session depending on length of conferences.
OBSERVATION
The student gives permission to be observed during therapy sessions on occasion by persons invited by the therapist.
