  • PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF POST:

    To provide care and support to vulnerable people in their own homes, as members of a caring team whose purpose is to assist Customers to live to their fullest potential. To ensure that you support clients, demonstrating at all times a sensitive, understanding, patient and caring approach.

    To ensure that all people receiving caring support have the right to privacy, dignity and choice, to be supported in taking considered risks, and to make decisions about their own lives.

    To respect and show proper regard for each individual's cultural identity and individual needs and preferences in all aspects of their care, and to help individuals to communicate where there are communication differences or difficulties.

  • MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    1.      To work at all times in ways which demonstrate an active understanding of the principles of the job as described above, and with appropriate guidance from senior staff.

    2.      To be actively involved in the individual’s care and support, helping to plan this, playing an important part in the continuing assessment and review of the individual’s needs and progress which will require some recording and attending/participating in meetings.

    3.     To write reports and maintain accurate records or care given within the comments books

    4.     To ensure and monitor professional standards of performance, in accordance with the National Minimum Standards and the Care Quality Commission and to promote good practice.

    5.     To ensure that there is effective communication within the provision of care services.

    6.     To give personal, emotional and practical support (as outlined in the care plan).  Examples of this may be listening to the individual’s views or concerns, helping with letter writing, assisting with shopping, and accompanying on journeys, including to and from the service.  It may also include, on occasions, helping individuals take part in social and community activities/or visits to their home/friends.

    7.     To communicate with relatives, partners, friends or carers involved with the individual, as well as with other staff and caring agencies with regard to the individual’s health and social care and well-being.

    8.     To ensure at all times that information about individuals is treated with respect and confidentiality, when receiving information, giving it, storing it and retrieving it.

    9.     To contribute to, participate in and attend appropriate training courses and staff meetings as required.

    10.   To inform the Care Manager of any complaint from any source and to act upon the complaint in accordance with Homecare Support Polices and Procedures, maintaining accurate records.

    11.    To provide physical and personal care as outlined by the care plan, assisting individuals in any aspect of personal care for example bed making, personal laundry, use of the toilet, bathing, eating and drinking and assistance with taking medication.

    12.    To improve the person's quality of life, and enhance his/her independence.

    13.    To assist individuals to develop practical daily living skills.

    14.   To ensure that Health and Safety Procedures are observed by all who work in the service.  This will include ensuring that staff are clear about their duties in connection with using personal protective equipment, using manual lifting gear and all aspects of hygiene in connection with food and other parts of the service.

    15.    To ensure all practice is pursued in line with the Company’s Equality Policy.

    16.   To promote and maintain positive anti-discriminatory practice.

    17.    To uphold good practice and report to the Manager immediately any abuse of a Customer or staff member in line with the Whistle Blowing Policy

    18.   Liaise with relatives, doctors, social workers and departmental and external agencies.

    19.   To undertake administrative tasks which will include receiving and receipting cash, resident’s finances, petty cash, comforts fund and participation, collecting benefits/pensions, and financial handovers as may be required.

    20.   To carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be required.

    21.    To adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures as outlined in the Company’s Code of Conduct and the Staff Handbook
