Understudy/Alternate Agreement 2022-2023

Understudy: An understudy is a dancer who will learn the choreography and be part of the team for learning purposes. This is an individual who has either asked the instructor to understudy in order to improve his/her skills in this style of dance and/or the instructor has asked him/her to understudy for similar reasons. Understudies will not necessarily be given an opportunity to perform the dance on stage.

Alternate: An alternate is a dancer chosen by the instructor/choreographer who will be the first person to fill into the dance should the need arise. The alternate may have similar skills, or higher-level skills than the other dancers on the team. An alternate may or may not be required to attend all rehearsals.

Parent Initials* I understand that an understudy/alternate is not guaranteed the opportunity to perform with the team.
Parent Initials* If someone on the team is sick, injured, or unable to perform I understand that it is up to the teacher whether I am placed in that dancer’s spot, or into the dance at all.
Parent Initials* Unless I purchase a costume for myself, I understand that I may not be able to fill in because the costume might not fit, including shoes for hip hop. I will let the teacher know if they should order a separate costume for me.
Parent Initials* I understand that if there is more than one alternate/understudy, it is up to the instructors’ discretion as to which one gets to perform; I also understand that the understudy/alternate who is closest in size to the missing team member may be chosen for costume reasons only.
Parent Initials* If I am unable to perform the tricks and technique done by the dancers on the team, or unable to perform the choreography to the standard of the other dancers, the teacher may choose to not include me.
Parent Initials* I understand that if a dancer has given sufficient notice of their absence, I would be responsible for paying the competition entry fee if I agree to perform with the team in a dancer’s place.
Parent Initials* If I have the opportunity to perform with the team, I understand that the costume must be returned to its owner as soon as possible, in the same condition that it was loaned to me.
Parent Initials* I understand that I am responsible to attend and pay for all technique classes required for the team I am an understudy or alternate for. There are no charges for understudies/alternates to attend team rehearsals.
Parent Initials* I will/will encourage my dancer to fully participate with the team they are understudying/alternating – I understand that sitting down during rehearsal or just watching will make it harder for me to fill in if the need arises.
