2023 AVMA Humane Endings Symposium abstract submission
The AVMA invites submission of abstracts for review for presentations and posters to be delivered at this symposium, which will be held January 27-29, 2023, in Chicago.
Abstracts should clearly relate to euthanasia, humane slaughter, or depopulation, or the psychological impacts of these activities. Examples of submissions of interest include recent research findings; reviews of research in a defined area; discussions of voluntary or regulatory oversight; and efforts or methods for harmonizing recommendations, nationally and internationally. Abstracts must include a clear statement of purpose; indicate the scope of the research, review, program, or voluntary/regulatory effort; explain methods used; and convey key findings. Length should not exceed 300 words, and abstracts must be submitted in English. Figures and tables should not be included. All contributing authors and their affiliations should be listed (using full first names, not simply initials), and the presenting author’s name must be underlined. Full contact details for the presenting author must be provided.
All research studies involving animals must have been performed in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, and use of animals must be consistent with guidance contained within the US Public Health Service Policy on the Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, NRC Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (8th edition), or Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Teaching (2020 edition).
Please complete the form below and submit it with your abstract. Submission of an abstract carries with it the obligation that, if selected, the work will be presented during the symposium by the author or one of the co-authors of the abstract.
Closing date for submission of abstracts is October 1, 2022. An acknowledgement of receipt of abstract will be sent within 48 hours of receipt and authors will be notified as to whether their abstract has been accepted by October 15, 2022. For clarification or additional information, please e-mail humaneendings@avma.org.
