Paths to Nationals
Open State & Local Title Opt-In
Your event has an Open State (no residency restrictions) or Secondary State (restricted to those from the state where the state event is held) title available in all divisions. This title is awarded to the second place winner in each division (who has opted into the Open/Secondary State title). If you opt in to the Open/Secondary State title, but place as a member of the court, you will be crowned on-stage as a local titleholder.
States with Open State Title: Minnesota (Miss Northern States), Ohio (Miss Midwest), Illinois (Miss Great Lakes), Iowa/Nebraska (Miss Great Plains), Pennsylvania/Maryland/Deleware (Miss Mid-Atlantic), Florida (Miss South Atlantic)
States with Secondary State Title: Indiana (Miss Hoosier State), West Virginia (Miss Mountain State), Kentucky (Miss Bluegrass State), Michigan (Miss Mitten State)
All members of the state court are automatically eligible to be crowned with a local title - live on stage! These newly crowned queens will also move forward to Nationals.
If you do not win either state title at your event, you will choose your local title after crowning. You will receive your custom-made sash in 2-4 weeks. You will receive your local title crown on stage at the event.
The open/secondary state title competition requires an additional $30 entry fee**, which will be included on your invoice after your registration is received. This election has no bearing on who wins the state title in each division.
If there is not a second contestant in your division and you pay for the $30 opt-in fee, we will roll this fee towards guest tickets at the state level or roll this amount towards Nationals.
**The $30 fee is waived if you are not a resident of the state where you are competing, as you are only eligible for the open state title in that case.
By selecting yes below, you are agreeing to compete at Nationals in Summer 2025.
