Description:
I will demo and then work with participants to try an approach to plein air landscapes that is spontaneous and fresh and involves identifying and painting the big shapes in a landscape before zeroing in on detail. Good plein air painting usually involves careful editing and simplification, and we will focus on a watercolor approach to this technique. You may paint with whatever materials you use, but I encourage you to have a couple “big” brushes such as a 1 1/2 inch flat “wash” brush and a large “mop” brush like a no. 12 or 15.
What to bring:
- Sketch/notepad and pencil
- Painting supplies
- A chair, if desired; the setting will be on a rocky surface
- Sack lunch and water/beverage
Where to meet:
- Meet at the parking lot closest to the breakwater at Artists Point.
