We're looking for people to help in the following areas:
Social media support, can be remote or London-based
Our social media channels are a critical tool for us to reach out to audiences in the UK and around the world. We use our platforms to amplify the voices of Ukrainian journalists and leading experts on Ukraine, and to publicise different Institute initiatives, including our events programme, educational courses, Ukrainian language classes and support for displaced Ukrainians. We’re looking for someone to help with posts about our projects and to suggest ideas for broader posts about other initiatives and media content on Ukraine that would be of interest to our audiences. Excellent written English is essential for this role; previous experience of using social media channels in a professional context is desirable. We’d ideally like someone who can be fairly responsive, so this may suit a freelancer or student with a flexible schedule.
Coordination of English conversation club for Displaced Ukrainians, London-based
We recently launched free English classes for displaced Ukrainians in Paddington. Our next step is to set up a conversation club for students of our school. We need a volunteer(s) to help coordinate this, taking on responsibilities such as managing registrations from students, reviewing expressions of interest from English language buddies and putting together a schedule of conversation clubs. We’d ideally like someone who speaks both English and Ukrainian for this role, with experience of managing rotas desirable.
Design support, can be remote or London-based
We often need to put together posters, graphics, newsletters and information leaflets to promote our different events and initiatives, which we typically build in Canva. We’re looking for a volunteer(s) with excellent design skills to help us produce these materials on an ad-hoc basis, working within our existing brand guidelines and palette. Experience of working in Canva and using branded materials would be preferable.
Website update support, can be remote or London-based
We need support with keeping both our primary website and our dedicated refugee support site regularly updated with information about our events and projects. We’re looking for a detail-oriented, conscientious volunteer to help us make these updates to our sites, building new pages or adding in information as required. Previous website experience (especially with WordPress and SquareSpace) would be preferable.
Newsletter support, can be remote or London-based
Our regular newsletter is one of our most valuable tools in reaching out to our audiences, sharing important updates and news about our latest events, courses and projects. We’re looking for a volunteer(s) to help us write and build this. Excellent English is required for this and experience of using Mailchimp or a similar email marketing platform would be preferable.
Events support in person, London-based
We regularly hold events in London, exploring different aspects of Ukrainian history and culture as well as sharing important insights and context on Russia's war against Ukraine. We’re looking for volunteers to join us in person and help with the set-up, registration of attendees, help with live tweeting events and taking photos for our social media channels. We’re looking for organised, friendly volunteers with excellent people skills.
Translation support, can be remote or London-based
It’s important that many of our resources are available in both English and Ukrainian. We’re looking for volunteers to support with translating various texts from Ukrainian to English and/or English to Ukrainian, including website updates, and information about support for displaced Ukrainians. Volunteers for this should be confident speaking and writing in both languages and would ideally have some experience of translation.
Video editing, can be remote or London-based
We have a rapidly growing number of subscribers for our YouTube channel, where we share recordings of our events and other video content related to our work. We're looking for volunteers to help with editing event recordings, creating clips with highlights for social media, and occasionally creating trailers to promote our courses and projects. Experience in using iMovie, kapwing or other online video editing platforms would be required.
