  • University of Hawaii Rainbow Band Tuition Waiver Agreement

    I HEREBY AGREE to abide with the following terms and conditions:

    Fall Semester (Marching Band - MUS 419E)

    1. You must register for and perform as a member of the University of Hawaii Marching Band (MUS 419E)

    2. You must actively participate in the activities, rehearsals, and performances of the University of Hawaii "Rainbow" Marching Band and maintain a passing level of attendance to these activities.

    3. Your scholarship will be withdrawn if you receive a "D" or lower in the course.

    4. You must bring all applicable equipment and supplies to each rehearsal including your instrument, music. pencil, charts, and lyre.

    5. You are responsible for the preparation (including marching cue indications), practice, and playing of all assigned music.

    6. You must perform in your assigned pep band for U.H. basketball games, commencements, and other engagements.

               A. You are responsible for finding your own substitute should a schedule conflict arise. You must find a player of the same instrument and part, i.c. a 1st trumpet player must find another 1s trumpet player.

              B. If you are unable to find your own substitute. you must inform the band director(s) at least two working days in advance before the scheduled performance.

    7. For those who play only in the Marching Band and who do not continue to play in a spring band. the period of commitment concludes with Fall Commencement.

    8. Achievement Waivers are available for up to a maximum of five years. (Exceptional circumstances such as graduate students, transfer students, etc. will be considered.

  • Spring Semester (Concert Band - MUS 419 B. C. D)

    1. You must audition for placement within one of the three concert bands: Symphonic Wind Ensemble (MUS 419B), Symphonic Band (MUS 419C), or Concert Band (MUS 419D) to receive your fully allotted tuition waiver.

    2. You must register for and perform in your assigned concert band section.

    3. You must actively participate in the activities, rehearsals, and performances of your assigned concert band, and maintain a passing level of attendance to these activities.

    4. Your scholarship will be withdrawn if you receive a "D" or lower in the course.

    5. You must bring all applicable equipment and supplies to each rehearsal including your instrument, mutes. music. and pencil.

    6. You are responsible for the preparation (including rehearsal cues), practice, and playing of all assigned music.

    7. You must continue to perform for the remaining engagements of your assigned pep band in the Spring Semester.

    8. Fall Semester Requirements that apply to Pep Bands are still in effect during the Spring Semester.

    9. You must perform at Spring Commencement, if assigned. Failure to do so, without permission from the Director's will result in your scholarship allotment being lowered by one credit.

    10. Achievement Waivers are available for up to a maximum of five years. (Exceptional circumstances such as graduate students, transfer students, etc. will be considered)

    2. You must actively participate in the activities, rehearsals, and performances of the UH Wind Ensemble and maintain a passing level of attendance in all activities.

    3.Your scholarship will be withdrawn if you receive a "D" or lower in the course.

    4.You must bring all applicable equipment and supplies to each rehearsal including your instrument, music, mutes, pencil. etc.

    5. You are responsible for the preparation. practice. and playing of all assigned music.

    6. Achievement Waivers are available for up to a maximum of five years. (Exceptional circumstances such as graduate students, transfer students, etc. will be considered

     

    Spring Semester (Concert Band - MUS 419 B, C, D)

    1. You must audition for placement within one of the three concert bands: Wind Ensemble (MUS 419B Symphonic Band (MUS 419C or Concert Band (MUS 419D) to receive your fully allotted tuition waiver. a. In the event your audition results in placement in Concert Band, the Director of Bands reserves the right to lower your scholarship allotment for the following year.

    2. You must register for and perform in your assigned concert band section.

    3. You must actively participate in the activities, rehearsals, and performances of your assigned concert band, and maintain a passing level of attendance in all activities.

    4. Your scholarship will be withdrawn if you receive a "D" or lower in the course.

    5. You must bring all applicable equipment and supplies to each rehearsal including your instrument, mutes, music, pencil, etc.

    UH BANDS CHAMBER GROUPS TUITION WAIVER AGREEMENT

    Fall Semester (Chamber Music - MUS 410F: Wind Ensemble - MUS 419B; Applied Music - 231x)

    1. You must register for Chamber Music Ensemble (MUS 410F) and perform as a member of your assigned ensemble (Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, or Saxophone Quartet

    2.You must register for and perform as a member of the University of Hawaii Wind Ensemble (MUS419B), Symphonic Band (419C), or Concert Band (419D). to receive your fully allotted tuition waiver. 

    3. You must register for Applied Music lessons on your instrument (MUS 231x, 1 credit

    4. You must actively participate in the activities, rehearsals, and performances of both the UH Chamber Group and Wind Ensemble, and maintain a passing level of attendance in all activities.

    5. You and your fellow UH Chamber Group members must locate, plan. and fulfill at least four (4) performances per semester. including two off-campus performances (in consultation with both the Director of Bands and the UH Applied Faculty

    6. Your scholarship will be withdrawn if you receive a "D" or lower in any of the three courses above.

    7. You must bring all applicable equipment and supplies to each rehearsal including your instrument, music, mutes, pencil, etc.

    8. You are responsible for the preparation. practice. and playing of all assigned music.
